Action Fund - C4

In 2020, Clean Air Council (501c3) launched the Clean Air Action Fund (501c4) as a sister organization to the Council.  As a 501(c)(4) organization, the Clean Air Action Fund is legally permitted to engage in a broader range of activities than the Clean Air Council, including electoral work and lobbying beyond 501(c)(3) limits. We use those tools to advocate for candidates and policies that address the climate crisis.  

Designation of someone as "a 501c4 contact" happens automatically in Salesforce, indicated by the 501c4 Person field being checked. That field automatically checks if any of the following are true:

The count of Salsa Engage actions with "C4" in the campaign name is greater than zero. (Field: 501c4 Actions)

501c4 Manual Addition has been checked. (A user has manually designated this contact a 501c4 contact.)

The count of 501c4 Donations is greater than zero. (Field 501c4 Donations is a rollup count of closed won donations of record type 501c4.)

Count of Clean Air Action Fund signup campaigns is greater than zero. (Field 501c4 Organic Signup, which counts membership in the campaigns "C4 - Sign Up Homepage (Short)”, "C4 - General Sign Up”, or "C4 Action Fund - Initial Contacts") 

Timeline of Contacts

In April 2022, the Action Fund website was launched. 

In May 2022, the Action Fund purchased 11k contacts from the Council (C3). Those contact are located in Salesforce "C4 Action Fund - Initial Contacts"

In June 2022, general sign-up forms were created in Salsa abs to capture organic C4 sign-ups. Those sign-up forms are called "C4 - General Sign Up" and "C4 - Sign Up Homepage (Short)"

In August 2022, our Salesforce consultant, Michael Kolodner, created a C4 rollup field, allowing us to see who is a Action Fund C4 contact and who is not.

In September 2022, first fundraising mailer was NOT sent to C4 contacts to raise money. The transition between Jessica and Ptah/Bobby slowed it down and it wouldn't be delivered before the election, so we pulled it.
