Counselor's Corner – September: Suicide Prevention & Supporting Mental Wellness 🌟
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time when we focus on the importance of mental health and how we can take care of ourselves and others. While conversations about suicide may feel big, it's never too early to talk about feelings, kindness, and getting help when we need it.
At school, we are learning how to identify our feelings, talk to trusted adults, and support friends who may be sad or struggling. A strong support system can make a big difference in every child’s life.
💬 Reflective Question for Students:
Who is a trusted adult you can talk to when you're feeling sad, worried, or overwhelmed?
📚 Mini Lesson Highlight:
In class, we’re practicing how to name our emotions and use safe coping tools—like deep breathing, drawing, or talking to someone we trust. We're also learning that it’s okay to ask for help and that no one has to go through hard times alone.
💛 For Parents:
Keep the conversation going at home by asking your child how they're feeling and reminding them that you're always there to listen—no matter what. If you're ever concerned or want additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Together, we can build a school community where every child feels seen, supported, and safe.
