Twin City Chambers of Commerce
On Wednesday, February 25th Claymont High School welcomed local businesses for the Twin City Chamber of Commerce Business Expo! Businesses were given a tour of our Career Technical Education classrooms and learned what career skills our students are experiencing. They were also treated to drinks made by our Mustang Mugs Cafe. Every student then visited the businesses in the gym where they were able to learn from the businesses about what they offer, what education it takes to run a business and job opportunities. It was a wonderful day of collaboration and learning. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the Twin City Chamber of Commerce for organizing this wonderful event!
There is a New Sheriff in Town!
Mrs. Lesiecki with Poet, Sheriff Campbell and Mrs. Dotts with Audrey
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Claymont teachers Heather Dotts (with high school facility dog Audrey) and Jane Lesiecki (with middle school facility dog Poet) were sworn in as special deputy sheriffs on the Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Response Team in a ceremony led by Sheriff Orvis Campbell. This multidisciplinary CISM team, composed of public safety personnel, clinicians, and clergy, was formed in early 2025 to provide "psychological first aid" and build resilience for first responders and community members following traumatic events. The addition of our trained facility dogs and their handlers provides a unique and powerful component that has proven to be both effective and popular among both CISM team members and those they have volunteered to help.
While many schools and service organizations are only now discovering the benefits of animal-assisted intervention, Claymont has been a leader in this space for nearly eight years. Since April 2018, we have integrated highly-trained therapy dogs to break through the barriers of stress and anxiety. By launching this program long before it became a widespread trend, Claymont ensured that trained teachers and skilled dogs are always available to provide a calming, non-judgmental presence when it is needed most. Having them selected for this regional CISM team is a testament to the specialized training and expertise found within our district. This voluntary partnership reflects the quality and reputation of our facility dog program and allows our handler teams to extend their reach as a vital resource for our neighbors and first responders.
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, interested students from Mr. Buxton's American Government classes visited the Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas to participate in Winter Law Day. This event, sponsored by the County Bar Association, provided students the unique opportunity to witness the judicial system in action.
While in the courtroom of Judge Michael J. Ernest, students were briefed on the criminal process, the various levels of the court system, and the judiciary's role as the third branch of government. Following the briefing, the group observed a live sentencing hearing. Upon its conclusion, students engaged in a thoughtful Q&A session with the court officials involved in the proceedings, including the County Prosecutor, Public Defender, and Judge Ernest.
THIS IS A CHANGE** We will have our Freshmen Orientation for the current 8th graders (Class of 2030) on Thursday, May 14th at 5:30. The week of Feb. 23rd- 27th was National FFA week. This is an exciting celebration of leadership, agriculture, and school spirit! Throughout the week, our hallways were transformed with creative decorations highlighting agriculture, career pathways, and the proud traditions of FFA. Students and staff join in the fun with themed dress-up days, from flannel and boots to blue and gold spirit wear, showing their support and enthusiasm.
The week also features engaging activities such as trivia contests, friendly competitions, hands-on demonstrations, and opportunities for students to learn more about agriculture and leadership. It’s a time to celebrate not only our FFA members, but also the important role agriculture plays in our community and daily lives.
Thank you the Claymont FFA Chapter for all their hard work planning a fun week!

D.U.N.K. Distracted Driving Assembly
On Friday, February 13th our high school students participated in an engaging and impactful assembly on distracted driving sponsored by the United States Army, featuring an unforgettable presentation by DUNK.
Through high-energy basketball stunts, interactive challenges, and real-life stories, students were reminded that one text, one glance, or one distraction can change a life forever. The message was clear: Focus on the road. Protect yourself. Protect others.
We are grateful to the U.S. Army and DUNK for bringing this important conversation to our school in a way that truly connected with our students.
Congratulations to Mitch Ady, who won a $100 Amazon gift card! Thank you to the yearbook students for the pictures!
