This series of modules provides a suggested sequence of activities for developing the mental computation of students. The activities are aimed mainly at developing specific strategies for processing mental calculations. The complete series is intended to serve as a practical classroom resource for teaching thinking strategies for mental computation in a coherent and sequential manner.

Module 1 Introduction

Module 2 - the second module in the series focuses on the basic facts of mental computation, addition and subtraction.

Module 3 - the third module in the series focuses on the basic facts of multiplication and division. Module three has two aims; to develop instant recall or swift calculation of the basic (i.e. single- digit) multiplication and related division facts; and to develop proficiency in using specific mental computation strategies.

Module 4 - the fourth module in the series focuses on the basic facts of multiplication and division.

Module 5 - the focus of this module is on mental computation of common and decimal fractions.

Module 6 - the focus of this module is on mental computation involving ratio and percent.
