Welcome to a brand new school year at TCA Bear Valley!
A new school year is filled with fresh beginnings, exciting possibilities, and countless opportunities for students to discover who they are and who they are becoming. We are honored to partner with your family on this journey, and we can’t wait to get to know you and your students throughout the year.
Each month, I’ll be sharing a short video designed to encourage character and strengthen the connection between home and school as we focus on the theme, “Be Kind, Be Brave!” Together, we can help our children discover the kindness and bravery that are already within them, and choose to let those qualities guide the way they learn, grow, and treat others.
I’ll also be sharing a monthly video created especially to encourage and support Home Educators in your homeschool journey. I look forward to sharing stories, ideas, and practical tips as we continue “Learning Together” throughout the year.
I truly believe this will be our best year yet, filled with growth, joy, meaningful connections, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Welcome (or welcome back) to the Bear Family!
~Mrs. Moen

To help us maintain a safe and secure campus for all students and staff, all adults visiting campus during school hours are required to check in at the front office.
When checking in, visitors should be prepared to:
Present a valid photo ID
Let us know where they will be going on campus
Share the purpose of their visit
Volunteer Update: We are no longer requiring volunteers to complete the Google Form prior to their visit. However, all volunteers must be approved and scheduled with a staff member before arriving on campus to volunteer.
We're excited to continue using Conference Notebooks this year as an important tool to support your child's learning journey. Each student will receive a Conference Notebook when you pick up your books from your A/B teacher or Educational Specialist.
The purpose of the Conference Notebook is to help guide our conference conversations in a focused, meaningful way. It’s designed to highlight the most essential standards at your child’s grade level and give us a shared lens for looking at progress, strengths, and next steps.
This work is rooted in the same collaborative process our teachers use through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), where they regularly analyze student learning, discuss effective instructional practices, and plan the best ways to meet the needs of every student. The Conference Notebook extends that partnership to you, giving families a shared understanding of their child's learning throughout the year.
You'll notice a few updates to the notebooks this year, and your child's teacher will walk you through the new features and how they'll be used throughout the year.
We look forward to partnering with you in these conversations as we celebrate growth, set meaningful goals, and work together to help every student thrive.

Here are some important reminders regarding our sickness policy:
Students who appear ill (ie. fever, stomach aches, diarrhea, stomach pains, vomiting) should not be sent to school.
If your student is sick, please email your teacher/ES (you do not need to call the front office).
A student must be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medicine (i.e. acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen) for 24 hours before returning to school.
Under California Education Code §§ 49423, students who require medication administration assistance to support learning and attendance during the school day must meet certain requirements before a school may assist with that medication. Medication administration is provided under the direct and indirect supervision of the School Nurse. If a student needs medication during the school day, the following guidelines must be followed:
● Complete a Medication Request Form for all prescription, over the counter, and herbal medications that includes the name of the medication, dosage, route, and time needed. The form requires signatures by both the parent and the student’s primary care physician. The physician must be licensed in the state of California.
● The completed form should be given to the Health Technician at the same time as you deliver the medication.
● The medication must be in the original pharmacy-labeled container stating the student’s full name, medication name, proper dosage, and time to be given. Please check the expiration date on all medications you provide to the school and update the medications as needed. A one month supply is preferred and then replenished as needed.
Please let your student know that they will be asked to come to the front office to receive their medications. Students are not allowed to self-carry medication UNLESS the self-carry form is filled out and approved by the school. Note: the school does not have standing orders to supply over-the-counter medications to students such as Tylenol, Advil/Motrin,etc. These medications require the medication process to be followed and can NOT be carried without proper documentation.
If your student has a chronic health condition, please have the appropriate action plan completed and signed by your student's primary care physician and parent per the following:
● Life Threatening Food Allergy - Allergy Action Plan
● Asthma - Asthma Action Plan
● Type 1 Diabetes - Diabetes Action Plan
● Seizures - Seizure Action Plan
If you have any questions about medications or your students health needs, please contact our District Nurse, Stacy Munro, RN at smunro@classicalacademy.com.
Student dress code applies to all students when on campus or at a school-sponsored activity.
Clothing must cover areas from one armpit across to the other armpit, down to a 3-inch inseam. Tops must have at least 1-inch shoulder straps.
Students found out of compliance with the dress code will be asked to change their clothes before returning to class or any school-sponsored activity. If the student does not have a change of clothes, they will be calling home to ask for a change of clothes to be brought to school.
Thank you so much for your support!
As a California independent study school, we are required to offer optional synchronous (live) instruction opportunities for students. This provides a chance for students to connect with a credentialed teacher in real time for academic support. There is no negative impact for the student if they do not attend.
At The Classical Academy synchronous (live) instruction opportunities are offered through scheduled meeting times with your A/B teacher or Educational Specialist. If you would like more information about times available to your student, please reach out to their teacher directly.
We are required to notify families when students do not take part. No action is required.
Thank you for your continued support.
Click HERE for the Parent Student Handbook landing page
Please review our school's Cell Phone and Smartwatch Policy. Highlights from the policy are written below. To see the full policy and all details, CLICK HERE.
Students may have personal cell phones and smartwatches on campus but they must be turned off or silenced and placed in their backpacks while on school grounds (including break, lunch, and after school activities).
If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian for any reason during the school day, they may use the front office phone or they may use their cell phone/smartwatch in the front office with permission. If a parent needs to contact a student, they should contact the front office, not the student’s personal cell phone/smartwatch.
Students may use their cell phone/smartwatch after dismissal time, once they are off campus, when the school day has concluded.
EMERGENCY DRILL SCHEDULE FOR 2026-27

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness, The Classical Academy will be conducting Emergency Preparedness Drills 6 times during the school year.
The purpose of these drills is to help students and staff practice established emergency procedures in a safe, structured, and age-appropriate manner. Most drills are expected to last approximately 10-15 minutes, after which students will return to their normal instructional schedule.
In accordance with school policy:
Advance Notice: This information serves as advance notification of the scheduled emergency drills.
Parent Opt-Out: Parents or guardians may choose to have their student not participate in Lockdown drills. All other emergency drills are mandatory for students who are on campus at the time of the drill. If you wish to opt your student out of a Lockdown drill, please contact the school office at least 24 hours prior to the drill so that we can make accommodations.
Mental Health Resources: We recognize that emergency drills may be stressful for some students. School-based mental health resources are available for any student who experiences distress before, during, or after the drills. Our staff members are trained to recognize signs of emotional distress and will provide support as needed. Parents or guardians who would like additional information about available mental health resources are encouraged to contact the school administration.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to keep our school community safe.

After the form closes, a shared spreadsheet will be made available to participating families as a resource for connecting with one another.
By completing this form, you acknowledge and agree that the information you provide will be shared with other TCA families who also complete the form.
