This was a difficult year. This was one of the most challenging years I have seen the CAHS student body navigate in my lifetime. We lost our friend and beloved classmate, Jonah Staebell. We were not able to spend the last 13 weeks together, literally. We lost the privilege of competing, performing, traveling, dancing, singing, and serving along side our Caiman family. We ended the year with a nation divided, hurt, and legitimately scared because of ongoing racism and violence in our cities and on our television. I wish we could have been together during this time!
As I have told the seniors already, I am so incredibly proud of each and every student for the resilience and determination you showed in not giving up. Many of you ended with higher grades than ever before! I am also amazed at how many of you continued to focus on gratitude for what you still had than bitterness for what you had lost. Finally, I'm proud of you for loving and supporting each other through the hurt!
There is something bigger going on with your generation where you are being prepared to do great things in our community and in our nation. I believe that you are specifically being prepared to solve problems, meet challenges, and to bring healing to our land. I have seen specific examples of this playing out already. I am so proud of you and hopeful for our future!
As we close the year, lets all remember and celebrate the incredible senior class of 2020. There are two ways you can join in this celebration.
1) Watch the Commencement 2020: https://youtu.be/_ehjpg3K99A
2) Enjoy the ASB Senior Tribute: https://vimeo.com/426635223
3) Also, don't forget to watch our final episode of Caiman TV at https://vimeo.com/426328824
Then write a note of encouragement to a senior who has impacted you for good. Maybe this was a teammate or a classmate who helped you grow in some way. Maybe you looked up to them as a strong role model. Whatever it may be, tell them what they meant to you and why!
Great job class of 2020! You left this school well and you left big shoes to fill!

For many young people, sheltering at home means missing milestones and public recognition of their achievements. This is especially true for seniors graduating from high school and college. Attached is a great article from NPR if you have or are a Senior feeling all the feelings this quaranine is bringing us.
Also remember that I am here to listen and support. I am hosting virtual support sessions for students, through Google Hangouts or over the phone.
To connect, simply fill out the CAHS Counseling Referral Form. Within 24 “school” hours (Monday-Friday 8am-3pm) of the referral being received I will personally connect to you or your student through Schoology to set up an appointment of their choice.
