A message from Mr. Boshaw:
This letter is being sent to everyone who has a child participating on an extracurricular team or is a member of the performing arts. Classical Academy High School currently has a 2.0 GPA minimum standard in place to support the academic mission of CAHS. It is a privilege to participate in extracurricular activities, and we know that our students spend countless hours practicing and competing. It is important to encourage our students to spend time on their schoolwork as well.
This year, we are asking all students participating on one of our performance teams and all non-CIF teams to have a 2.0 GPA. This includes:
-Cheer, Dance, Flag, Musical Theater, Band, Choir, Drumline, Color Guard, Mountain Biking, Roller Hockey, Boys beach volleyball
This is how it works:
At the end of every quarter, we will run a grade report of students from both CAHS campuses. Any students whose grades are lower than a 2.0 GPA, will be placed on probation. They and their parents will be notified. It is expected that the student will put a plan in place to bring up their grades. This can include going in for tutoring, making up missing work, and keeping track of their grades on Schoology or (Canvas for PL students). Students are allowed to participate while on probation.
At the end of the next quarter, if the student has not brought up their grades above a 2.0 GPA, they will be ruled ineligible. Again, the students and parents are notified. This status will last until the end of the next grading period (9 weeks). Students may not participate while ineligible.
Note: Ineligibility only applies to participation at events or competitions. If they are taking a class, such as dance or band, they may still attend class.
We encourage all students and their parents to use Schoology to keep track of grades and message teachers to ask for help if needed. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy.
Sincerely,
Alex Boshaw
