"I liked that we really made a difference. I learned that there are people out there who need our help, that are nothing like us, but exactly the same. I learned how special needs kids be themselves. This project helped me to see what we really need to do to help people in need. I love the fact that if you continue this project, we can make a difference year after year. I think that this was a lot more in depth than a lot of research and persuasive writing I've done."
"I learned that you can make a difference in the world. I also learned that if you get your information and cause out there that people will listen and contribute. I liked how we actually made a difference in the world and how I probably changed someone's life. I also liked how we did the fair to tell other people about this topic. I also learned that you can teach great writing lessons through research. It was a lot better because I knew it mattered and it was more than a grade."
“(The Fair) taught me that not everything for school is just for a grade. We actually made a difference in our community. I think that is amazing!” ~Ava
"The Make a Difference Fair” was a lot of fun. I realize we take a lot for granted. People in Africa have to work really hard for water and we don’t even think about it (fresh water). Right now people are thinking about building the Pipe Line and it can contaminate our water right here at home.” ~Brock
“It feels good to make a difference about something that matters to you. With this project, I finally got to learn about something that I actually wanted to learn about.” ~Kalli
“It was really eye opening. It really taught me some people skills. There are all these people that are coming up to talk to you. It was cool to reach out to people to teach them about Special Olympics.” ~Anna
“The Make a Difference Fair really reminded me to care about other people beside myself. I also liked how so many people are willing to help,” ~Garrett
“(The Fair) is like giving an animal or person a light in the darkness. When they donated, though, it was like a big, warm, and welcoming hug!” ~Leigha
"Wow! How awesome! I thought this was a great project. Much more fun for the kids to do a report. Now when they all have to do volunteer hours after their junior year they will already have an idea of what to do."
"I thought it was an awesome night for all those kids and their organizations. Thanks for all your work to teach and lead the kids through this project. Great job!"
"Thanks for sharing! I shed tears last night watching how mature and passionate the 6th graders were and I shed tears today when I got the email [about how much money was raised]. Wow....how incredible and heart warming to hear the dollar totals. I could just vision the excitment on everyones face as they were told the dollar amount."
"This is an awesome idea! You’re helping them see that they can make a difference if they get interested and passionate! Oh, and they probably will write a lot better too. I can’t wait to talk to Zoey about her topic. Thanks for going beyond and giving kids credit for more than just doing as told."
"The kids did an excellent job last night! I was very impressed with their presentation skills. I hope the fundraising was also a success."
COMMUNITY MEMBERS SAID:
"I just wanted to take a moment and tell you what a wonderful job the the children did on the "Make a difference Fair". Jan Meyers and I were invited by some of our tenants children who attend Scott Middle School. Jan and I already thought highly of these young people, but after attending this program and seeing how much work went into each of these booths. It was amazing. I was so impressed on how all the students were so knowledgeable about each nonprofit they had chosen. Thank-you to Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Ridder and Mrs. Beran for doing such an amazing job with helping these children develop such wonderful skills. The children gave such wonderful presentations, they introduced themselves and the members of their team (if they had any), shook our hands and answered all of our questions. Thank-you for the wonderful job you all do everyday with these young people. It really shows you care."
ORGANIZATIONS SAID:

"The Born This Way Foundation appreciates your 6th grade team of students and teachers and the work that the students have done to help raise funds for the Foundation and their programs: The Bravest Map Ever, Play Brave, and the Born Brave Bus Tour. We think it’s great that Scott Middle School hosts the Make A Difference Fair each year that teaches students the value of philanthropy and giving."
"Thank you from all of us at Double Clear. Your interest and the student efforts really do make a difference."
"We were very impressed with Mr. Bartolome’s enthusiasm for spreading the word about patient safety. Please convey our thanks to him for his work and for contacting the National Patient Safety Foundation."
OUR PRINCIPAL SAID:
"Team 6A Teachers
I had some time to reflect on what I saw and experienced tonight at the Fair. You all did an incredible job. I talked to many parents and visitors that were so impressed and astonished by what they saw and experienced. There were many compliments about the team of teachers and Scott Middle School. You represented yourselves well and brought a lot of positive attention to the Scott Community.
But....
In the end, it wasn't about the press, the attention, the accolades, or the compliments. It was about the kids. It was about THEIR work, THEIR efforts, THEIR passion, THEIR causes, and THEIR learning. Success and learning cannot always be measured by test scores, data, or results on paper. Sometimes, YES sometimes, it is measured by the heart, the pride, and the lessons in life. Good teaching leads kids, supports kids, and brings out their fullest potential. It happens in the background and often without the students even knowing they have learned. What happened tonight was just plan good teaching. Everyone of you supported, stayed in the background, and watched the kids "do THEIR thing". I hope you were able to soak up what happened tonight and pat yourselves on the back. It certainly was a "Make a Difference Fair" but not just because of the causes of each kid. It's because you can look in the mirror and say, "I Made A Difference in the life of a child" and that will last forever!Well done team, well done!"
