Every year, we invite a number of speakers from local charitable organizations to share some information with the students. These early speakers help students start to think about what social issue they want to research. We have been fortunate enough to have organizations like The Hope Venture, Capital Humane Society, The Child Advocacy Center, and many more share stories and facts that really open the students' eyes.
As the project really gets rolling, students begin to find organizations they want to support. There are usually a few groups who will organize a speaker to come and share information with our pod, hoping others will want to join them in their quest to help with their chosen social issue. Students have contacted such organizations as The American Red Cross and The American Lung Association.
Students Share
One of our favorite things we started doing in 2015, was invite former students back to the pod and let them tell about their experience. The current students were able to ask about what worked and how they prepared. It also gave the former students a chance to relive the fun, excitement, and nervousness of their MAD fair!
