Letter to VIP
Over the past five years, Scott 6A students have raised over $50,000 to help the people and animals of Lincoln and our country. We are trying to increase that total, but it will only be possible with help from you. Scott Middle School’s 6A students are trying to make a difference and we want you to join us. By attending our event you can learn more about what the Make a Difference Fair is, educate yourself about the needs of people and animals in Lincoln, and even donate money to organizations you care about.
I bet you are wondering what the Make a Difference Fair is. We are trying to raise as much money as possible for these struggling people, because not many other people are. What we do to help these people is inform citizens about our cause when they come to the fair, and if they are deeply moved by our cause, they can donate money to our booth. If somebody is helping the cause of animal abuse, they would try to persuade the person to donate. We are hoping to raise even more money than before, but we will need your help to do that.
The Make a Difference Fair will educate you about people and animals in need and about what you can do to help. Through my research on people living in poverty, I learned that since 1970, the US poverty rate has been 11% to 16% of citizens. If you attend our event, you will not only learn about poverty, but many other problems we face in our world today; problems such as homelessness, child abuse, animal abuse, and many more. At the Make a Difference Fair, you will also be able to donate to organizations that touch your heart or are dear to you. The Make a Difference Fair is something you don’t want to miss!
I know that you may have lots of days full of meetings. You may think that you have too much going on to attend our event. Do you want to miss an opportunity to donate to an organization that is dear to your heart? Do you want to miss the opportunity to find out how you can help? Of course you don’t! Put the date of the Make a Difference Fair in your calendar right now. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did.
In this letter, I’ve explained what the Make a Difference Fair is, and why it is important that you attend. Now, it’s time for YOU to make a difference. Before I close, remember this quote; “You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.” ~John Wooden
Sincerely,

Letter to Lincoln Food Bank
Hello, my name is Drew. I am a 6th grader at Scott Middle School, and I have researched world hunger. As we know, hunger is a serious problem. Each year, hunger kills three million children under the age of five. Hunger affects about one in nine people globally. Since hunger is a major issue, we have to do something about it.
Each year, our school hosts the Make a Difference Fair. This is a night where people can donate money to organizations like yours. 6th grade students research various issues, and then form groups and decorate boards to help raise awareness for those issues. People come and donate money, and each year, 6th graders raise thousands of dollars in all! The Make a Difference fair is on April 13th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. I hope you will come and enjoy it!
At the Make a Difference Fair, there will be many topics about world issues. Hunger is such an important issue because it is the world’s number one health risk, affecting 925 million people globally. 500 million of these people are in Asia alone. There are 66 million elementary students that go to school hungry each day. Something must be done to help stop hunger!
Now that you know why hunger is such a serious problem, it would be great to have your support at the Make a Difference Fair. You will be sure to learn about many important issues. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see you on April 13th!
Sincerely,
Drew Xxxxx
Letter to KLIN
Katie is a twelve-year-old girl that is like you and me. The only difference in her life is that she spends it being repeatedly beaten and put down by her father. Sadly, this is how a lot of children have to spend their childhood. Hi, my name is Olivia, and I am a 6th grader at Scott Middle School. I have researched the topic of child abuse during our school’s research unit. I'm writing to you so that we can partner together and make the world a better place for people like Katie.
The Make A Difference Fair, or MAD for short, is a project that is put on by the Scott 6th graders and will take place on Thursday, April __, from 4:30-6:00 PM. It will be located at the Scott Middle School Gym, 2200 Pine Lake Road, Lincoln, Nebraska. The other students and I have researched topics such as cancer, seizures, human trafficking, animal abuse, and the topic I chose, child abuse. At the MAD Fair, the students will have boards set up to inform the public about the causes that they represent. There will be a table set up for donations so that the visitors can donate to the organizations that the booths are fundraising for. I think this is a great way to help and give back to the community.
You may be asking, how will the public know about the Make A Difference Fair? That is where you come in. I was wondering if you would like to either talk about the MAD Fair on the air during one of your KLIN radio shows or have a few students come and talk about it on the air. This way, the MAD Fair will be successful and the local organizations that the students are supporting will earn some money to help the people in the city of Lincoln. Being Lincoln's best news radio station, you can reach many more people than I ever could! The more people we can get to the fair, the more awareness and money we can raise!
Now, I know what you are thinking. “I would love to have you, but there is no time to put you on the air,” or ”there is more news to cover and we might need to cover a different story.” But just think about it: if you help the Make A Difference Fair, you could be helping a child who suffers abuse, an elderly man who has cancer, or even an unborn child who wasn’t killed because the MAD fair gave the mother a second option of letting her child live.
Thank you for reading this letter. I know that you have a very busy schedule with KLIN. I have heard the shows. I listen to them every morning before school! Thank you for considering our request to have us on the air. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Middle School at 402-436-1218. Remember! If you help us, the MAD Fair is helped. If the MAD Fair is supported, the community is supported. Let’s work together to make the world a better place!
Sincerely,
Olivia
