Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education (CITE Journal) is an online, peer-reviewed journal, established and sponsored jointly by five professional associations. The CITE Journal is published quarterly, and each edition includes articles related to the cross-section of teacher education and technology integration. I chose to include this journal because this directly relates to my problem of practice, and my teaching philosophy. This also integrates nicely into a STEM classroom.
The Americal Educational Research Journal features articles that advance the empirical, theoretical, and methodological understanding of education and learning. It publishes peer-reviewed research that encompasses all disciplines and levels of analysis. This in-depth, scholarly journal provides insight into many subjects and approaches to teaching. This relates to my problem of practice because I am continually looking for new approaches and to see what others have researched and tried in a field similar to mine.
This is a great resource. It can be viewed digitally or via hard printed copy. This magazine covers a variety of Science related topics that are tailored to Middle School science students. It highlights concepts they learn as well as ones that pique their interest. It is also written at a level that most students should be able to read with little difficulty. These can enrich a lesson being taught or offer extended learning activities. Because these can be viewed digitally they could easily be used in a remote learning situation.
This book can be downloaded for free or handed out to teachers of Science. This book outlines a broad set of expectations for students in Science and Design Thinking or other Engineering classes in K-12th grade. This book covers 3 dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science education should be built. The aim is for students to graduate with a knowledge of science and be able to engage in scientific discussions. This book should also help educators with assessment, instruction, and how-to guide (provide feedback) to students through their science learning journey.
This book will help you engage your students in the classroom! This book aims to help educators create more teachable moments, and in turn, become more effective teachers. This book focuses on the 5E model which involves: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. Each step requires reflection from the teacher and feedback should be ongoing throughout the teaching process.
This journal contains many wonderful articles, on a number of teaching topics. The one that I used to help my problem of practice was called 'The Instructional Effects of Feedback in Test-Like Events'. It stated that timely feedback is critical for student achievement. If it is too slow, it does not allow for the student to go back and correct a mistake, if it too soon, then the student becomes dependent on the teacher for answers and does not put in the time to correct their error.
This journal helps enhance the quality of teacher education through research. It explored which types of feedback are most common in the upper elementary classroom. It was found that most often teachers comment on the task itself but vary rarely comment on what the next steps for the student should be.
Educational Leadership, which is published by the ASCD is a journal about teaching and learning new ideas and practices relevant to current educators. It covers a span from pre-kindergarten all the way through higher education. This journal confirmed my problem of practice, immediate feedback is more effective than delayed.
