Hi there! Thanks for checking out my page here. Hopefully you get a better sense of who I am based on this page. I'm looking forward to all the great things and cool stuff that we'll be doing/making this year. But first, a little bit about me.
First and foremost, Mrs. Phillips and I have been enjoying every minute hanging out with our new best friend, Henry. He's the coolest little guy. Right now, he loves to roll around, go on walks, try new foods, and knock over towers of blocks. He's also known to stare and giggle at our cat, Piper, when she's getting into trouble. Her favorite hobbies include knocking over LEGO to get our attention and cuddling on my legs.
You might already know this, but I do like LEGO. I also like to buy LEGO, but don't tell Mrs. Phillips that. One of my favorite sets is Voltron. Unfortunately, Voltron was destroyed when a Captain America Shield fell on him. The elements are all there to rebuild him, but it has been a long, sad process. Some day, he will be repaired and be displayed once again in all his glory!
There are a lot of other great sets that I still have, so it isn't all bad. One of them is in this very classroom. The Saturn V rocket. That is the set that got me hooked on LEGO for the first time since being a youngster like yourself. I also have some great ones at home like the Old Fishing Store, the 1989 Batmobile, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. I have a few great ones still sitting in boxes, too, that I can't wait to eventually find time to put them together and add them to the collection!
Up next, I love the Detroit Lions. I am absolutely stoked for the season, and I really feel like this is the year for them! In addition to the Lions, I enjoy rooting for all the local Detroit sports teams, as well as both the Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans. I don't have a preference between the two. I just root for whoever is doing better during that particular game.
My favorite sport, though, will always be basketball. I loved watching the Detroit Pistons play and win championships! Same with the Detroit Red Wings. Hopefully, some day soon, they'll be good again and we can all root for them like the good old days.
I am also a big fan of entertainment like movies, television, and video games. Over the summer, I saw some fun movies like Indiana Jones, Spider-Man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you could see the shelf behind my workstation, you would see that I have a bunch of collectibles of everything from Star Wars to Dragon Ball Z, Portal to Mega Man. Oh, and I used to have an awesome Captain America shield on my wall. Then it fell. Currently, I have been playing my Steam Deck and loving every minute of it. And, of course, I am always up for a race in Mario Kart!
Growing up, math was always my favorite subject. I enjoyed the "puzzles" that I would have to solve. To this day, I still enjoy a good puzzle! The subject that I would call my favorite today, however, would have to be social studies. I love being able to teach about the way the world works and what our history was like. Fifth grade is definitely the best year of social studies since we get to talk about our country's beginnings. It helps us realize why we are the way we are. Actually, eighth grade social studies is great, too. That one might be better. It's close either way.
All this about me, but the most important thing of all to know about me is how close I am to my family. I have five older brothers, so I basically have five built-in best friends. My mom always told us growing up that it'd end up that way, and I didn't believe her, but I am glad I am wrong. I try to hang out with them as frequently as I can, especially since we all have pretty similar interests. Even better, I get to be an uncle to some of the coolest and most adorable nephews and nieces a guy could ask for. They keep me young!
