Fifth Grade Election

By Karly and Chloe

Every year, 5th grade runs to lead our school and guide them through the year they are the 5th grade leadership team. They all read their speech out loud to the school and everyone voted on a ballet based off of what they said and promised in their speech. The team helps make the school the best it can be and help make new changes to the school. The positions are president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Congratulations to our 2017-2018 Student Council. This year, we are excited for them to make the school a better place. We are all proud of you that participated. We as a school had to pick what four you thought was the best out of them. Then we got the results. Don't forget you still have your chance to shine there is a classroom representative meaning every class selects one student to represent their class and they help the 5th grade leaders as well. Every class will select one member and all the selected students will come as one team.

Better Lunches

By Chloe

Well, fifth grade is having a hard time getting along in the classrooms, lunch, recess, and all of the co-curriculars (Art, Spanish, PE, and Music). We, as a leadership school, know what to do. We have the techniques.

Habit one be proactive, habit two begin with the end in mind, habit three put first things first, habit four think win win, habit five seek first to understand then to be understood, habit habit six synergize, and habit seven sharpen the saw.

We can make lunch and recess better by listening to the teacher and cooperating with them. We have to get better at this and if this year doesn't go well, sixth grade might not either.

The Shoe Relays

By Pierce

At the start of the year, the whole fifth grade did an shoe relay. What we did is everyone took their shoes off and threw them into the middle of the pile we all made with our shoes. It wasn’t the prettiest smelling thing, though. The point was to see which class could get their shoes on the fastest. I thought everyone had a lot of fun. Our class didn't win, but we all had fun. My shoes were pretty smelly after though.

Ozobot Math

By Karly

Earlier in the year, the whole class tried out using the Ozobots. We were going to see which group could get the Ozobot around 36 omnifix cubes the fastest. We as a class found out the fastest way around 36 omnifix cubes is to put them in a 6x6 array. We then raced them around them and added more tracks to it. We had a lot of fun playing with these tiny robots.

Halloween Party and Monster Mash

By Karly

At the end of October, our school has a Monster Mash to celebrate Halloween. It is a big meet up after school hours and we dance, talk to our friends, and eat! It is a really fun time.

Everyone comes in their costumes and it is one of the highlights of the year. Sometimes, if you are lucky, Mr. Phillips does a cartwheel and it is pretty spectacular.

Usually the teachers come and dance with the school. It is a place to have a good time, see your friends, and celebrate Halloween.

Half-Day Fridays

By Pierce

Once a month, on Fridays, the whole school has a half day. On this day, the day is cut short from 7 hours to 3. This helps our students have fun, so they are not pressured. But it is not just our school, the whole district participates in this half day Friday. So mark your calendars, because you won’t want to miss the 11:31 dismissal. Or it could be 10:53 for the middle school if one of your children go there. This day is shortened because the teachers have meetings and work to fulfill us the kids and help us learn in our classes.

Sphero Races

By Karly

Mr. Phillips is the best. One of the reasons is because he is fun, but another reason is because he has a lot of amazing technology, such as Chromebooks, Kindles, LEGO bricks, and robots like Spheros. They are controlled by a mobile device that can change the speed, color, and direction. You control them from the device and you can make obstacles they are very fun especially when you race them. Soon, we'll be programming them to try and work on different challenge courses.

The Middle School

By Chloe

Every year fifth graders from North Sashabaw Elementary come to the middle school and, work on science and some other stuff but mostly science. So on the 12th of October we went over to the middle school and we had groups of like 2 or 3 in our class and the other fifth graders. So we walked all the way over there and we walked through the hallways nice and quietly till we got up to the second floor. Then we could talk once we got into the 7th grade science room. There were lots of stations like there was a dry ice station and lava lamp station oobleck station and a elephant toothpaste station too.
