Welcome, Miss Stenberg’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and parents! I am so excited to start my 15th year of teaching! To enter the most passionate years of my educational experience is an understatement!
As many of you may know, this is my second year at Johnson-Williams Middle School. I taught first grade for 13 years, and I am excited to finally be entering the next phase of my teaching career into my first passion; that of art!
I was born in New Braunfels Texas, between Austin and San Antonio, and moved to Virginia with my parents and brother in the mid 90’s.
I have always had a love for art, and I’ve had many wonderful and inspirational art teachers throughout my earlier school years and into college. They have all helped to sculpt me into the teacher and continuing education student I am today!
I graduated from James Madison University in 2002 with my Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education Pre-K-12. I then continued on with my Early Childhood Education Program for licensure in Pre-k-3. I got my first, full-time teaching position in 2005 as a first grade teacher and taught for thirteen years.
I have truly loved teaching six year olds; but I am equally excited to continue my new journey of teaching art to middle schoolers in my third year here at Johnson-Williams! My concentrations in college were in painting, drawing and sculpture, but I also dabbled in textiles, ceramics, digital art, and collage.
So, a little about myself; I am first and foremost, never bored! There is ALWAYS something to do; something to learn or explore! I grew up playing piano, and my brother played violin. I know a little ukulele and am currently taking guitar lessons.
A few other passions of mine include poetry; (reading and writing it!), being outdoors, laughing over some kind of comedy, or silliness, spending time with friends and family, painting or drawing consistently, loving on my four cats, traveling to new places and eating delicious food!!
I have just my Master’s degree this summer through Shenandoah University for a Master of Science in Literacy Education with a concentration as a Reading Specialist. I have always loved learning, loved creating art, and I have loved teaching each and every student! I look forward to spending my time with you all this year and seeing your creative ideas come to life!
