Course Topics

  • Introduction: What is Art?

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5 )Students will dig deep and come up with their own conclusions about what ART really means to them. Students will study the elements of art and complete a color wheel study for a review of basic color theory and value.
  • Zentangle: A Study in Line:

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.9, 6.11 )Students will explore a variety of lines and the artists who first created zentangle as an art form.
  • Concentric Cirlces-A Study in Color:

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.9, 6.11) Students will learn about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky and his use of color with concentric circles. The artist, Chuck Close, later adapted this idea for his portraits.
  • Exploring Shape:

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.9, 6.11) Students will learn about the spanish artist Joan Miro and his use of shape for his surreal paintings. Students will create their own “celestial scene”-miro inspired piece.
  • Form-Creating 3D Figures through Sculpting:

(SOL's:6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5 )Students will create 3-dimensional Alebrije figures using sculpy clay to show the elements of form and texture.
  • Secret City Extension Study of Form and Value:

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 )Students will use what they’ve learned about 3d figures and adding value for shading and contrast to create a secret city design.
  • Landscape-A Study in Light, Space and Texture:

(SOL's: 6.2, 6.3,6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.9, 6.11 )Students will learn about impressionism and the defining artists of the time, with emphasis on Claude Monet. They will create an impressionistic landscape to show space, value and texture.
  • Portfolio Production:

(SOL's: 6.1, 6.13, 6.14, 6.15 )Students will have the opportunity to develop a portfolio of their work bymeans of a digital presentation. Students will reflect on their artisticjourney this Trimester.
