(SOL's: 7.3, 7.4, 7.6, 7.8, 7.18 )Students will dig deep and come up with their own conclusions about what ART really means and what it means to be creative. To begin, students will explore brain dominance and explore their own creativity.
Drawing-A Study in Line:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.19 )Students will learn about types of line drawing, including contour and gesture. They will be introduced to the work of Henri Matisse and Alexander Calder.
One-Point Perspective:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16, 7.20 Students will be introduced to Johannes Vermeer and Vincent Van Gogh as artists who incorporated one point perspective in their work. Students will learn about types of lines and techniques used to show space and the illusion of depth.
Principles of Design Study:
(SOL's:7.3, 7.4, 7.6, 7.8, 7.18 ) Having reviewed the Elements of Art, students will become familiar with the Principles of Design artists use in their consious planning of artwork.
Clay Masks:
(SOL's:7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.8, 7.9, 7.10, 7.11, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16, 7.17, 7.18, 7.19, 7.20 ) Students will learn techniques of working with clay, and will design a clay mask to embody the element of form, as well as the principles of Design.
Pop Art Study:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16, 7.20 )Students will learn about the pop art movement of the 60’s and the many artists that shaped that art revolution including andy warhol, roy lichtenstein and more. They will then create their own pop art inspired piece.
Heart History:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16, 7.20) Students will learn about another pop artist, Jim Dine and his series of hearts. They will explore famous works of art and choose a famous artwork to inspire their own heart history composition.
Contemporary Art Study:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16, 7.20) Students will explore the artwork of many popular artists of the 20th century including Georgia O'Keeffe, Yayoi Kusama, Frida Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jeff Koons. Students will hav the opportunity to create works of art influenced by the style of these artists and gain perspective on varying styles and techniques used by each.
Portfolio Production:
(SOL's: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.15) Students will have the opportunity to develop a portfolio of their work bymeans of a digital presentation. Students will reflect on their artisticjourney.
