3 Reads Strategy

This strategy helps students make sense of problems (SMP 1) and reason about the quantities in the problem (SMP 2) by reading through the problem three times:

  1. to understand the context

  2. to interpret the question

  3. to identify important information

A more open-ended variation on the 3 Reads Strategy involves using only the problem stem. In this variation, you read the problem stem three times:

  1. to understand the context

  2. to consider the quantities involved

  3. to pose questions that might arise based on the problem stem
