Service Overview
Each semester, MYP (Grade 7 slightly different) students will undertake 1 Service as Action(SA) project. Students will document the process using the Service As Action planner, investigate a need in the community and/or select an engagement from the MYP SA Project Bank that relates to a local, global, or environmental issue. Through this process, they need to meaningfully develop 1-2 learning outcomes.
The aim is for students to positively impact the school, local, and/or global community in a reciprocal nature while also preparing for their CAS experience in the DP.
Role of the Advisory Group Teacher
Deliver and engage in the Service Advisory lessons and programme.
Encourage student participation in service projects.
Encourage and support student-initiated projects / opportunities for student leadership.
Monitor student progress on Managebac and assess student progress against the term and semester rubrics.
Key Aspects of Our Service as Action Programme
Using The 5 Stages of Service Learning, MYP students will go through a process of applying accumulated knowledge and skills to meet authenticated community needs while reflecting and demonstrating their personal growth.
Students will develop 1 - 2 of the learning outcomes per Service as Action project.
Students will need to reflect upon how they developed the outcome and grew from their service experience.
