What is Service?
Service as action engages students in sustained action and actively contributes to authentic needs of the community.
As students reflectively engage in their action, they develop a deeper understanding of, and an emotional connection to, the world around them.
Students develop a sense of identity and belonging, seeing themselves as capable and purposeful change makers, empowered to take action that makes a positive difference in the world around them.
Why Does Service Matter?
Through Service as Action we “Live the Learner Profile”. Through Service IB Learners should:
1. Strive to be a caring member of the community.
2. Demonstrate a personal commitment to service.
3. Act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and the environment.

What Qualifies as Service
Demonstrate that you are caring member of the community.
Develop one of the 7 Learning Outcomes.
Address an authentic need within a community.
Have a level of long term commitment
Make a positive difference in the community and be reciprocal in nature
The 4 Type of Service?
Direct Service - you interact directly with people, animals, or the environment.
Indirect - your actions will benefit people, animals, or the environment but you do not meet with the directly.
Advocacy - you promote awareness and understanding of a cause or concern or promote action on an issue of public interest.
Research - you collect information through varied sources, analyse data and report on a topic of importance in order to influence policy or practice.
