The second reflection, known as the interim reflection, takes place over halfway through the Extended Essay (EE) process, around 75% completion, before the draft submission deadline. By this time, you should be almost finished.
The questions posed and the direction of the interim reflection will depend on your progress.
If you are lagging behind, this is an ideal moment to ask for the help you need to get back on track.
Do you have a reasoned argument that is sustained throughout your essay?
Have you made coherent links between different points and the evidence presented?
To what extent have you answered your research question, and how has your understanding of it developed?
What factors may have impacted your ability to answer your research question?
If you were selective in the evidence presented, can you justify your choices?
Is there a clear, summative conclusion that reflects the discussion you've had?
Have you fulfilled the expectations of the Extended Essay task?
Has your research changed your perspective on the topic in any way?

What strategies have worked particularly well for you at this stage?
Did you change your approach or methodology during the process? If so, what prompted that change?
Have you critically evaluated your source materials? Why do you think this is important?
What have you learned about the subject area and the skills needed for successful research?
What challenges or obstacles have you faced during the research process, and what strategies have you used to overcome them?
Are there any inconsistencies in your argument or analysis? If so, why do you think that is?
Is your argument well-structured and coherent, and have you provided enough evidence to support it?
Will the examiner be able to follow your line of argument?
What steps do you plan to take to complete your final draft? Are there any last-minute changes you might consider?
Where are you now in the research process, and how did you get there?
How are you adhering to the academic honesty policy?
What changes need to be made to complete your research effectively?
What have you learned that might affect the way you continue?
Are there adjustments or changes that you might make to improve your essay?
