LEARNING OUTCOME 2
Production
Today was my scheduled production day to film at Sherborne Cinema. I was instructed to arrive at the cinema at around 9am, and leave at around 11:30. The night before this on Thursday (12/12/24), I made sure to check all of the equipment I had booked out to use. The equipment I booked out was: A Canon dSLR 90d, a tripod, 18mm wide angle lens, an audio recorder, as well as a microphone. I also looked through my SD card to check the space, just so I didn’t run out mid-way while filming. The wide angle lens was an additional feature that I wanted to include during production, as I was confident that this would be very effective in expanding the spaces inside of the cinema, especially the screening room/auditorium. I arrived at the cinema on time at 9am to begin my shooting of the building. The cinema was already open, which enabled me to go straight in. There were no customers at the time I arrived, as the first screening was at around 12:00, giving me the reason why I had to leave before this time, as the auditorium was being used. There was one staff member present during my shooting of the cinema, he was very hospitable, and happy to help wherever possible. I was first shown into the screening room/ auditorium, where I was asked how I would like the lighting in the room. The auditorium had two different sources of light, these were the wall lamps, and the main lights on the ceiling of the room. I first decided to only have the wallet lights on, as I thought this would catch the more natural setting of the room, this is the sort of lighting that customers would walk into. After spending a few minutes shooting the auditorium, and changing the iso a few times, I checked through some of the footage that I had shot so far, and realized that the shots were far too underexposed, and many of the details in the space were not being picked up. This is when I then asked the staff member to turn on the ceiling lighting, which they thankfully did, as this was very helpful, and helped me out massively. I made sure the iso was suitable and got back to it. An hour had now passed, and I was able to film all around the auditorium, including the screen, wall details, and the seating. After this, I felt disappointed by some of the wide shots. This thing convinced me to switch from the standard lens to the wide angle lens. I found it to be very impactful on my shots, it was brilliant at being able to expand the auditorium, and show off the screen as the focal point. Point. I believe it also dealt with the warm lighting of the auditorium more effectively, and it's more precise with the feeling I was trying to catch. After completing my shots of the screening room. The staff member offered to play the opening sign/credits for screenings onto the screen for me. I found this helpful, and a kind gesture, as it could definitely feature in the final edit. After filming in the auditorium, I then moved to the entrance area, which shows the cinema program, latest releases and what is coming soon. This was an important sector to film, as this would be the entry point for the customers, so it was important that I share the space as effectively as possible. This did not take as long as the auditorium, due to this being such a small section. After filming the entrance, I began filming the serving area of the cinema. This is where customers can receive their ticket, and buy snacks and drinks. I tried various shots when filming the serving area, trying to show its vintage appearance. Staff member to include a hand-drawn picture from the cinema's owner. Which was very detailed, showing an early Christmas imagining of the cinema. I found this rather impressive. As well as this, I was also asked to include the two anniversary mugs that the cinema had on sale. These were red and white, and black and red mugs, which were made for the 10-year anniversary of the cinema, which is next year (2025). This was one of the instances where I struggled with the focus of shots, mostly due to the type of lighting at the cinema full stock. After this, I was able to shoot some of the smaller details of the serving area. One of the details I was lucky enough to shoot was the vintage ticket machine, where I was able to capture it in action. This will be useful in capturing the vintage 30’s golden age look of the cinema, and the unique experience it offers. I was also able to film a range of the cinema's snacks, as well as the popcorn being shoveled. This was around the time where I would have left to shoot the exterior the next day, but based on the time I decided to go outside and film the exterior of the cinema on the same day, which of course with the staff member's permission I was allowed to do. I filmed a range of different shots of the exterior, trying to maximize my time, and shoot the most effective things possible. It was important for me to shoot the establishing shot of the cinema, giving me the opportunity in post to insert different forms of introducing the building. I took closer shots of the building. Also, with handheld approaches and whip pants. I hadn't used whip pants as frequently before this project, this may have been due to the previous settings of the projects, and how suitable a wet pan would have been. But for this project, I think whip puns could be quite useful in the editing stage, and possibly the final product. This is mostly due to the fast paced nature of the advertisement, with a whip pun showing a good way to possibly make the product more exciting. I also filmed a few details of the exterior, including opening hours, outside lighting, and what's coming soon. I thought that it was also important to emphasize the age, and history of the building. Showing its vintage signs, and year of construction plaque. I finished shooting at around 11:20 a.m., and during this 2 hours and 20 minute duration, I was able to film the auditorium, entrance area, serving area, exterior, and the car park. I was pleased with my ability to shoot in such a short amount of time, and featuring both the interior and exterior. I was thankful for the hospitality of the staff member working, and all of the staff members during this whole time. After initially finishing the production stage of the project, I am overall quite content with how shooting underwent, but I will only properly be able to see the quality of the footage when I begin logging. I've been very fortunate to be able to film at Sherborne Cinema, and I am thankful for this opportunity. Now it's time for logging, and editing.

Final Presentation for client
Unfortunately, again the clients were not able to attend an in-person meeting. In this meeting, I was intending to prepare a suitable final presentation for the client, where I would’ve shown them the final product. I would’ve then got the initial reactions from the cinema employee (s), and provide them with a series of questions to answer. It is unfortunate that an in-person meeting could not be arranged. Instead of an in-person meeting, I decided to create a google drive folder, where the Sherborne cinema employees can access the final product to watch, in which they can then send me feedback, with their honest thoughts and critiques. Fortunately, Sherborne cinema did reply to my message, informing them of the folder I had created. This was the response:
