We partner with schools at all levels to foster environmentally friendly practices and design extra-curricular activities that reduce ecological footprints and cultivate a deep sense of eco-consciousness among students.
This Singapore map is made of pre-loved school uniforms, and includes crests of the 97 schools whose Parent Support Group Leaders participated in the "Go Green PSGs" project in May this year.
The project was a partnership between Changkat Primary School (CKPS), its Parent Support Group and The Circular Classroom in support of the annual Go Green SG initiative by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE).
The artwork was presented by the Changkat Primary School Parents Support Group to President HE Tharman Shanmugaratnam as a token of appreciation - on time for National Day. He graced the launch of the Go Green SG movement on 16 May 2025 at Changkat Primary School.
The map is more than a creative artwork: it shows the commitment of parents and students and school communities to responsible consumption and sustainable living.

January - June 2025
Changkat Primary School (CKPS) celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 5 July 2025 with a special community project that embodied sustainability and community engagement. Every year, numerous pre-loved school uniforms still become obsolete. Instead of discarding these materials, CKPS, in collaboration its Parents Support Group (PIE Club), The Circular Classroom, Temasek Polytechnic, Bernina and Changi Simei Community Centre embarked on a large-scale repurposing initiative and invited students, parents and local community to join.
With over 3,000 volunteer hours over 6 months we transformed over 2,000 pre-loved CKPS uniforms into over 1,400 handcrafted memorabilia - including keychains, pen holders, cutlery set holders, and pouches. During the anniversary event these products were distributed to visitors, alumni, and students as gifts, sold and auctioned off with all proceeds going towards the PIE clubs educational programmes.
The project aligned with Singapore’s Green Plan to become a zero waste nation as it effectively reduced textile waste and promotes the values of sustainability among students, parents, and the local community. For this project we started with over 150kg worth of preloved CKPS school uniforms to repurpose and by the end of the upcycling project the remaining waste came to 20kg.
Sustainability needs collective efforts and commitment! Through repurposing pre-loved materials, we were able to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and resourcefulness while strengthening community bonds.

16 May - 29 June 2025
Take a look at this vibrant tapestry, woven from pre-loved school uniforms, boldly proclaiming "Go Green PSGs"! This is not just another artwork. It is a powerful
visual symbol of Singapore's unwavering commitment to sustainability and the crucial role of education in shaping a greener tomorrow.
On 16 May 2025, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment launched the one month-long Go Green SG initiative at Changkat Primary School. The Go Green SG movement calls upon citizens, organisations, and communities to unite in collective action towards sustainability and brings together diverse stakeholders from education institutions, businesses, NGOs and government agencies. On this occasion and during the special year of SG60, we supported Changkat Primary and its CKPS Parent Support Group on a very unique project:
With the support of the PSG Zonal Leaders, the CKPS PSG invited all its peers - Parent Support Groups from the over 336 schools across Singapore - to be part of a nationwide community collaboration and create a one-of-a-kind PSG artwork made entirely of pre-loved school uniforms. 97 PSGs participated, each contributing with a set of pre-loved school uniforms and PE attire. The artwork "Go Green PSGs" represents three messages:
1) PSGS are a united front in championing sustainable practices.
2) PSGs promote circularity in action and sustainable consumption practices by reducing textile waste
3) Education is a catalyst and plays a pivotal role in fostering environmental stewardship and nation-building.
On 29 April and 8 May, the CKPS PSG and The Circular Classroom organised two fun and hands-on workshops at Changkat Primary School to create the artwork. Over 80 PSG leaders engaged in sustainability-themed games and collaborated on cutting, sewing, and assembling the materials, completed just in time for the launch of Go Green SG 2025. As part of this creative upcycling effort, the pre-loved PE uniforms were also repurposed into handcrafted fabric flowers to form the “SG60” logo —a beautiful tribute to Singapore’s upcoming 60th birthday.
This inspiring project showed the power of community, creativity, and commitment to building a zero-waste future. Kudos to CKPS, the CKPS PSG and all the PSG leaders and volunteers for showing how sustainability starts at home, in schools, and through collective action.
26 June 2026
We were thrilled to contribute to the Sustainability Camp for Educators series, organised by Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design. On 26 June 2025, The Circular Classroom organised a hands-on workshop for 99 teachers and staff members of Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School (KCPSS). Set against a sustainability theme, this unique event blended creativity, technology, and textile reuse to initiate conversations—and actions—around circularity in education.
The workshop invited KCPSS teachers to work in teams using their pre-loved KCPSS uniforms as their primary material. Strips of dark blue and white fabric—harvested from old school uniforms—were meticulously cut and intricately woven together to form a large-scale, interactive artwork: a functional QR code that leads to the KCPSS school website. This activity aimed to create a mindset shift—one that blends tradition with innovation, and waste with possibility.
Around the border of the framed QR code, teachers hand-sewed their initials onto small squares of uniform fabric.
The workshop was preceded by a thematic introduction, where we shared:
The global and local impact of textile waste
The externalities behind fast fashion and their microplastics
Why Singapore must rethink school uniform disposal
How educators play a vital role in shaping sustainable mindsets
The hands-on experience of transforming preloved uniforms into a tech-textile artwork helped them reframe waste as a resource—and how educators could carry this perspective into their classrooms.
Our heartfelt thanks to Temasek Polytechnic School of Design for hosting and supporting this initiative and the teachers of KCPSS for their enthusiasm, creativity, and openness,
29 April to 20 May 2025
In collaboration with 40 students from Chongzheng Primary School’s Green Club, The Circular Classroom and the Green Club’s Eco Warriors were able to turn their preloved school uniforms into useful sling phone holders.
In this hands-on sustainability workshop, the students repurposed their preloved uniforms into a functional and stylish pouch, giving the textile a second life. Using cardboard cut-outs, they carefully traced and cut fabric panels, pinned them together, and—under close adult supervision—took turns on the sewing machine. For many, it was their first time learning how to sew.
They can now share their hard work with their families and use it to inspire friends about repurposing textile waste. They now have the basic sewing skills to develop a more creative and sustainable approach to textile waste through hands-on learning and education.
April to May 2025
From April to May 2025, we carried out a large-scale intergenerational sustainability project in collaboration with Victoria School, involving the entire Secondary 2 cohort of 350 students.
As part of this initiative, students worked alongside seniors from THKMC Active Ageing Centres to repurpose pre-loved school uniforms into useful new items. Through a series of upcycling workshops facilitated by The Circular Classroom (TCC), students learnt basic repurposing skills, and co-created meaningful products such as pencil cases and other handmade items.
This project was designed not only to reduce textile waste, but also to encourage connections across generations. Many of the seniors had experience with sewing but had not had opportunities to continue this hobby in recent years. Supporting the students during their sustainability journey gave them a renewed sense of purpose and joy. For students, it was a chance to learn practical skills and understand sustainability in a more personal way.
Despite differences in age and language, creativity and sustainability is a shared language.
This project was partially funded under the SG Eco Fund.
2 April 2025
The Circular Classroom held a special workshop at Zhenghua Primary School. We taught primary students how to turn old school uniforms into something brand new—phone-carrying pouches!
The goal? Rescue textile waste and start getting to think about sustainability in a fun, creative and hands-on way. With scissors, pins and a sewing machine, students learned the basics of cutting, pinning and stitching. For many of them, it was their first time operating a sewing machine!
With all the materials that go into producing a phone they aren't the most eco-friendly items- but how we carry them can be!
These upcycled pouches gave old fabric a second life. More than just sewing, the students showed teamwork. They helped each other learn and execute side by side. The students were proud of what they created. A big thank you to Zhenghua Primary School for the great collaboration!
Let us keep up the progress on sustainability one stitch at a time!
March to May 2025
From March to May 2025, we are happy to support an After School Programme at St Patrick's and collaborate with its Parent Support Group on a two sustainability initiatives.
Together with 10 students from Sec 1 to Sec 4, we will co-create graduation gifts for the Secondary 4 boys as well as tokens of appreciations for Teachers Day. Early planning is necessary to finish everything on time...
Great that St Patrick's can also rely on a strong Parent Support Group and several volunteers from the parent community who will help expediting this project.
March to May 2025
We collaborated again with Tampines Meridian Junior College (TMJC) - this time with the JC's Makers Club. 25 students transformed their pre-loved TMJC uniforms into pouches and gained first experiences with hands-on repurposing and machine sewing.
The TMJC project also blended creativity with technology: together with the teachers in charge for the Makers Club, we developed ideas and effectively executed a large-scale, interactive artwork made entirely of pre-loved school uniforms. The artwork features a functional QR code meticulously crafted from up-cycled TMJC fabrics. When scanned, the QR code links to the Singapore Green Plan website www.gogreen.gov.sg to amplify the message of sustainability. Additionally using small scraps of uniform fabric, students sewed individual flowers that, when assembled, spelled out the school’s initials in its colors, creating a decorative centerpiece.
This tech-textile fusion highlights the TMJC's and The Circular Classroom's commitment to environmental consciousness and action through innovation and design.
April to May 2025
Our first collaboration with Anderson Serangoon Junior College: a school and neighbourhood project that engaged 60 JC1 students and senior members from the community. As we celebrate SG60 together, we began creating owl plushies made of pre-loved ASJC uniforms with a goal number of 700 plushies.
Step 1: following the train-the-trainers approach, we equipped the 60 JC1 students with sustainability skills and trained them on hand and machine sewing skills and repurposing.
Step 2: together with the school, we organised an intergenerational repurposing session in a nearby community centre for seniors.
Step 3: the students who participated in the workshop will go on to train their peers in school.
Students and elderly participants from Lions Befrienders and THK Active Ageing worked together on the owls, exchanging stories and learning from one another. The shared moments fostered a meaningful connection, enriching the experience for everyone involved.
The final outcome - a small population of textile owls that reminds us of the importance of circularity and environmental protection.
This project was partially co-funded under the SG Eco Grant.
March to May 2025 and 12 July 2025
Another meaningful intergenerational project that we started in March 2025! We were happy to partner with Beatty Secondary School and the school's English Department on a sustainability project where we engaged 25 Sec 2 students across different classes.
Together, we co-created tote bags - some for the students and some for senior citizens from the Toa Payoh West Community Centre. Initiated by the school, also organised a sustainability workshop for the seniors and students and jointly crafted an artwork made of pre-loved school uniforms inspired by Peranakan design. The unique art piece incorporated cultural patterns, geometric lattices, floral elements, and auspicious symbols.
We also conducted a special session for the Beatty Secondary School Parent Support Group to learn about sustainability and contribute additional elements to the final art piece.

As PSG ExCo Alumni of CKPS, we encourage our fellow parents to engage and volunteer in the respective schools of their children. Parent Support Groups form an essential part of the school culture and community and contribute to a positive teaching and learning environment.
Have a great school year ahead - enjoy the learning!
6 November 2024
In preparation for Go Green SG 2025, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment organised a sharing and networking session for teachers and school representatives on 6 November 2024. The event showcased successful examples of school activities that were held as part of Go Green SG 2024 and connected schools with a curated selection of partners that offer sustainability-related activities for education institutions.
We were thrilled to be part of the event and to present our mission and work to over 80 educators and school teachers. We were also happy that three students from River Valley Primary School and their Science Teacher joined us on this occasion and shared their experiences during Go Green SG 2024. The Circular Classroom and RVPS collaborated on a Sustainability Day during Go Green SG 2024 and conducted several activities, including a uniform donation drive, quiz booths, an exhibition and more. Read more about our engagement in Go Green SG 2024 here.
In collaboration with the Singapore Management (SMU-X) course on Teambuilding and Leadership, The Circular Classroom stated a Singapore-wide Study to advance sustainability in the education in late 2023. We assess how students and parents can actively contribute to achieve the Singapore Green Plan 2030 targets and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste generated by schools through sustainable consumption. In particular, we focus on school uniforms and how they can be reused or repurposed.
The Survey is anonymous, tailored to students at different school levels and parents, and takes about 10 minutes. The questions cover 3 topics: 1) Understanding of the SG Green Plan 2030, 2) Sustainable Consumption practices, and 3) Perceptions of pre-loved School Uniform Usage. We warmly invite all schools to engage their students and parents in the survey, which can be conducted the survey via SLS and/or Google Forms.
By collecting valuable insights on consumption practices and mindset of students and parents, we aim to identify areas where both groups can make positive changes to reduce their environmental impact, lead a more sustainable lifestyle, and become active contributors to the achievement of the SG Green Plan 2030.
An Interim Report on the Study was prepared as a contribution to Go Green SG 2024, organised by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, and shared with the Ministry of Education - National Advisory Council, COMPASS (COMmunity and PArents in Support of Schools) and MoE Eco Stewardship Programme Team.
We aim to collect at least 20,000 voices from Singaporean students and parents to create awareness and to channel the voices in our community to policy makers in the education and environmental sector. Join us and share your views!
18 November 2024
From Stage to Sustainability: environmental protection is about interdisciplinarity! On 18 November 2024, we visited again Bendemeer Primary School and welcomed 40 students (Level 3 to Level 6) to a repurposing workshop. All students were members of the school band and we jointly repurposed their old band uniforms. The program combined hands-on learning with sustainability, teaching students about the environmental impact of textile waste and the importance of repurposing.
Students transformed their old band uniforms jackets into practical items like pouches and bottle holders. For many, it was their first time sewing, but they quickly found confidence in their new skills.
The workshop wasn’t just about crafting — it showed how small actions contribute to sustainability. By the end of the day, students left with a sense of accomplishment and a fresh perspective on how they can make a difference for the planet.
25 September 2024
Our first collaboration with River Valley Primary School was during Go Green SG 2024 in July 2024. What a pleasure to continue our cooperation with the school, Ms Asveeny Sanjeevi, Level Head (Science), the PSG and 10 student leaders on sustainability and to explore another opportunity of promoting circularity in schools!
On 29 September 2024, we ran a hands-on workshop with over 20 PSG volunteers and students leaders (P4 and P5 levels). Following an introduction to sustainable textiles and sustainable consumption, each participant created a pouch made of pre-loved RVPS school uniforms. While we welcomed a few experienced PSG leaders, most parents and students sat for the first time on a sewing machine. More exciting activities to come at RVPS!

During the period of Go Green SG 2024, we also set up our mobile exhibition "Circularity in Action: School Uniforms for a Greener Singapore," at River Valley Primary School (RVPS) from 2-4 July 2024.
The collaboration with RVPS has an interesting background: Our journey began in January 2024 when we met Primary 5 student Aiden and his family at our co-creation space at Play Pan, the former Peace Centre. We helped Aiden repurpose his outgrown uniform into a little pouch. Excited about his new creation, Aiden wrote a letter to his principal, Mrs Jennifer Pang, asking if the school could organise similar sustainability activities. He had already mobilised several of his friends to support him in this initiative. In March, we received a lovely email from Mrs Pang to explore a potential collaboration.
Over May and June, we worked with Ms Asveeny Sanjeevi, Level Head (Science) at RVPS, Aiden, and his friends to prepare an event for Go Green SG. While students designed fun-filled recess activities for their peers, we set up our exhibition and partnered with the Parent Support Group on a uniform donation drive.
We would like to thank RVPS, Aiden and team, and PSG volunteers for this partnership!
July 2024
As part of Go Green SG 2024, we showcased our exhibition "Circularity in Action: School Uniforms for a Greener Singapore" at Tampines Meridian Junior College (TMJC) from 2-4 July 2024.
At the same time, we also kickstarted a Value-In-Action Programme with TMJC students. From early July to mid-August, nearly 50 J1 students embark on a meaningful journey of creativity and service, making tote bags from pre-loved school uniforms, which can be for example used as gifts for graduating students. The programme offers a fantastic opportunity for applied and experiential learning.

TM Connects 2024 is an annual event at Tampines Meridian Junior College where TMJC student clubs, NGOs, charities and local community stakeholders from the social and environmental sector present their work and encourage JC1 students to volunteer. More than 500 students attended the event.
We were happy to join the event and set up an info booth, next to many other key organisations in Singapore that drive positive change in the communities, for example the Singapore Association for Mental Health, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, Caring SG Commuters, SG HealthCare Corps, or Over the Rainbow.
September 2023
On 13 September 2023, Changkat Primary School (CKPS) celebrated Teacher's Day in school.
The CKPS Partners in Education (PIE) Club and The Circular Classroom came up with a very creative and thoughtful idea to express parents’ gratitude to teachers, educators, school leadership and school staff:
In line with the PIE Club's commitment to go green, parent volunteers sewed over 200 coasters out of 100% recycled school uniforms during craft workshop sessions in school and at home.
These handmade gifts were a token of appreciation and respect to all CKPS teachers and staff for their unwavering support and hard work to create a supportive, collaborative and inclusive learning environment for our children.

SG75 is an annual competition which invites everyone to share ideas and a vision for a better Singapore and to help steer the direction in which we build our nation. The CKPS Partners in Education (PIE) Club participated in the competition and submitted a video entry with the support of The Circular Classroom. The message: Climate Change affects all of us, irrespective of race, language or religion. If we do not find solutions to tackle Climate Change together, Singapore's closely knit social fabric might not withstand this challenge to our future.
