Steps:
1) Strip the two wires (length depends on the guage of your wire but you need to make sure that by the end you can get one well done twist that will hold)
2) twist stripped ends of wires for multi-stranded wire (this makes sure it doesn't splay and cause issues)
3) slide on any insulation needed, make sure it is at least 1" away from joint otherwise it will melt from the soldering iron heat
4) place on any heat sink clips (they are the large black and red clips) if needed (this is to prevent heat from frying any electrical components like motors ect.)
5) place the wire in the helping hand so you don't burn yourself
6) turn on soldering iron (for the green ones power in the center)
7) clean the soldering tip in the brass wool
8) tin the soldering iron tip (apply solder to tip and clean on brass wool)
9) add solder to the tip of the soldering iron
10) place soldering iron on one side of wire and solder on the other (wait until it melts this may take a little) (if dealing with 12 gauge wire or less you need a slightly different technique)
11) once the joint has solder on all sides of the wire and forms almost a smooth surface around the wire you can slide on the insulation and heat it up with a heat gun
IMPORATANT REMINDERS
Please make sure you use a fan to extract the fumes from your soldering
Use non-leaded solder if you can (for safety)
Use rosin core solder to make the soldering easier
Apply flux if the soldering joint is very large or you are not able to solder well
If having a difficult time soldering try cleaning your soldering iron especially if you are seeing darker spots on the tip of the soldering iron
Make sure to use a soldering iron holder so that you do not damage other materials or hurt others
Make sure to let the soldering iron cool down before putting away
If the solder is balling up on the tip of the iron and cleaning with brass wool is not making it better then use tip tinner (heat soldering iron and place in the cleaning solution). That will only be a temporary fix so do replace the tips at some point
*the video shows a sponge, we do not have any of those
*when twisting make a cross then twist, not how the lady just lays them side by side (this makes a connection that is a little stronger on its own and may not require a helping hand for
