Develop human resources who can work as local staff supporting the foundation of industry
Aiming to strengthen IT human resource development in Cambodia, since January 2018, we conducted training with Cambodia's National Institute of Posts, Telecoms & ICT (NIPTICT) as part of JICA Partnership Program "Human Resources Development Project by Strengthening Basic IT Capabilities and Skills for Revitalization of Local Economy". From January 2020 onward, face-to-face training became difficult due to the spread of COVID-19, so we developed e-learning materials and implemented a hybrid system of face-to-face and online training.
Overview
[Start] 2017–
[Goal] Train IT personnel to revitalize local economies
[Target] Students, working adults (including public servants)
[Target] Phnom Penh City, Battambang Province, Svay Rieng Province
Background
Cambodia has achieved steady economic growth, but on the other hand, the widening gap between urban and rural areas has become a social issue. One contributing factor is the shortage of technical personnel in rural areas, and in particular, the development of IT talent has not progressed. Furthermore, starting in 2023, programming will become a compulsory subject in elementary schools, making it necessary to improve teachers' IT skills going forward.
Feedback from Beneficiaries
Svay Rieng University, Faculty of Science and Technology, Student
I decided to take this general IT training because I could learn that it teaches fundamental IT knowledge that is applicable even in Japan. Although I major in IT at university, taking this training not only helped me review my IT skills but also allowed me to learn about management strategies and techniques. I think it is an excellent course for building the foundational skills needed to work at companies and institutions engaged in IT-related business.
