Foster entrepreneurs and achieve national self-reliance by creating domestic employment and increasing tax revenue
We aim to achieve national self-reliance in Cambodia by increasing the number of domestically-funded companies, creating domestic employment, and generating tax revenue. To invigorate domestic industries, we hold an annual business model contest. In the training that participating teams receive, in addition to know-how such as marketing, we provide guidance on whether the business model is a socially-oriented venture and on the mindset required of an entrepreneur.
Overview
[Start] 2010–
[Goals] Through holding business model contests, we conduct initiatives to cultivate entrepreneurs, aiming to create employment within their own countries and contribute to national self-reliance through taxation.
[Target] University students or working professionals within their first three years of employment.
Background
Cambodia's GDP growth rate has been stable in recent years, but it largely depends on foreign-owned companies. There are few Cambodian-owned companies, and even when they are established, many go bankrupt quickly, making sustainable management difficult. With an average national age of about 24, the country aims for self-reliance by fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among its large youth population and creating more jobs.
Activity details
We have held a "Business Model Contest" (BMC) since 2010.
In recent years, the hosting has moved to ”National University of Management(NUM)", and CIESF is providing support.
Teams that pass the document screening participate in workshops where they learn about corporate philosophy and know-how based on the "Sanpo Yoshi" (good for all three parties) principle, and are provided with opportunities to practice their business models and interact with active business professionals.
Recently, there has been an increase in business models that utilize IT or specialize in social enterprise fields.
In the 2017 contest, a team that won second place in this competition made it into the top 10 at the "World Conference" held in the United States.
