On behalf of the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, I am delighted to welcome you to the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Public Policy, Global Affairs, and Society: PGS).
Political, economic, and social challenges today rarely fit neatly within national boundaries or a single field of study. Understanding them requires students to examine how governments, societies, institutions, markets, and people interact at both domestic and international levels. PGS has been designed with this changing world in mind.
During their first two years at Chulalongkorn University, PGS students develop a strong foundation in political science while studying public policy, global affairs, and society from interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives. They then spend their final two years at a partner university abroad, where they continue their academic development in a different intellectual and cultural environment.
This 2+2 educational model represents more than an opportunity to study in two countries. It encourages students to question assumptions, understand issues from different perspectives, communicate across cultures, and develop the qualities of responsible global citizenship.
As students of political science, however, we should never lose sight of the fundamental purpose of our discipline: understanding society so that we may contribute to making it better. The Faculty therefore places particular importance on public service, social responsibility, integrity, and concern for the common good. Education should not be pursued solely for personal advancement. It should also prepare us to serve others.
Our students will enter a world in which leadership is often associated with position, influence, or achievement. We hope that their education at PGS will encourage a different understanding of leadership: one grounded in responsibility, service, and a willingness to make sacrifices for society when the common good requires it.
The Faculty of Political Science is proud to provide an academic home in which students are encouraged to think independently, engage seriously with important public questions, and develop a strong sense of responsibility toward both their own society and the wider world.
I hope that your years with PGS will be intellectually challenging, personally rewarding, and filled with opportunities to discover not only the world around you, but also how you can contribute to it.
Welcome to the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.
