During the Second World War (1939-45), over 40 former pupils of the School lost their lives whilst in the service of their country. To my knowledge, we have never, as a school, carried out an extensive research project into these individuals, their time at school, when and where they died, and where they are buried.

The purpose of this project is to develop a website which would allow visitors to the site to search for details of Old Waconians who died during the war and to find out more about the impact of the conflict on life at CHS.

During the period of site closure, a lot of research can be carried out using resources such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website https://www.cwgc.org/find/find-war-dead to discover when each Old Waconian died and where there are buried and more general websites which provide information about particular campaigns in which they died.
Once we return to school, we can use the School archives to discover more about these people and what it was like at CHS during the war years.
This promises to be a fascinating project which will help develop your research skills, and also one which will result in the creation of a highly useful resource for anyone interested in finding out about the role of CHS during WW2.
