You Said, We Did

We have regular feedback from students, either directly to the HE management, through the Students' Union, via our support staff, or through the Course reps at Course Boards.  We take all feedback seriously so wanted to share with you some of your concerns and some of our responses.

Apr 2024

You wanted comfier chairs for the counselling classrooms so we purchased new low chairs for both the Eastbourne & Lewes classrooms.

You said you wanted to have easier access to HE staff members so we installed a phone in the student computer/study room to have direct contact with the HE office, and provided email contact for lecturers.

Feb 2024

You were concerned about Designer Maker workshop space clashing with adult classes so we reserved the metalwork studio on Mondays for HE student use.

You said you wanted better lighting in rooms 5154 and 5156 so we installed dimmer switches.

You said there was disruptive noise from students from other programmes playing around the 5th floor so we increased security checks and the problem has stopped.

You said you wanted lessons on photo editing software and camera use so we had free photography and photoshop lessons, with more dates planned for the rest of the academic year.

You said you wanted new coffee machines for the counselling classrooms so we bought and installed new machines in both campuses and provided some complimentary pods.

You wanted more online library resources, so we have trialed a subscription to the psychology database on EBSCO and are waiting for student feedback

You said you wanted to learn welding as part of your Arts degrees, so we put on a a taster session in Ore campus.  Let us know if you would like more!

You wanted to visit London Build, an industry show for the construction trades, so we took you there.

You asked for uplighters in the Counseling room in Eastbourne as the overhead lights were too oppressive after a whole day, so we purchased some for you.  You also wanted a coffee machine and toaster.  Sadly the toaster was not allowed due to it being a potential fire hazard, and one that activates fire alarms unnecessarily, so we purchased another microwave instead.

You wanted to be able to access online library resources more easily.  We have changed the front page of the site to help you navigate quicker

You said 'we need new Mac computers in the Music department' so we bought some new, faster machines, specifically for use by our degree students.

You said 'the computers on the fifth floor are slow.'  We continue to upgrade where possible and are in the process of purchasing some new kit.

You said 'we want more support in Lewes and Eastbourne', so we employed a dedicated HE Well-Being Progress Mentor.

You said 'our creative degree students want to have a live final Degree Show in June'.  We investigated and worked hard to make it happen.

You were concerned about the effects of lock down, but overwhelmingly positive about the online teaching and about plans that teachers had made to help you over the next few weeks.

You were concerned that library links weren't working on the library website.  We investigated and most are working fully.  However the ability to search for physical books is not working in Lewes and Eastbourne, due to conflicts with our software and the providers.  This means you will have to email any requests to lewes.library@escg.ac.uk or eastbourne.library@escg.ac.uk until it is fixed.  The layout of the front page has been redesigned to point you towards the electronic resources first, to help you find what you are looking for.

Sept 2020  

You said 'we want catering facilities in the evenings in Lewes'.  We have arranged for a drinks trolley to be provided, including a hot urn or water and refreshments in the evenings in Lewes.

You said 'we want catering facilities in the evenings in Eastbourne'.  We have extended the opening ours of the cafe until 6.30pm in Eastbourne.

You said 'how often are the toilets being cleaned?'  We found out that toilets are on a two hour cleaning rota.

You said 'we want to eat our lunch in the classrooms'  we agreed you could do this!

Aug 2020  

You said 'we don't want to come in for enrolment'.  We auto enrolled all 2nd and 3rd years to save coming into college

June 2020  You said 'we want to come back next year to use the specialist resources that we missed out on due to covid'.  We have allowed all students to repeat modules this coming year, if they felt they had missed out.
