We know that unforeseen circumstances can have a serious impact on your study and outcomes. There is nothing more important than protecting you from the unexpected, to ensure that you have every opportunity to reach your full potential.
If you have faced serious unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances which have affected an assessment, you can submit a request for Additional Consideration using the form at the bottom of this page. You can only submit a request for Additional Consideration after the affected assessment date - please submit the request as soon as possible after the deadline. This process includes an appeals process too.
There are two routes for Additional Consideration requests. Self-certification is for difficulties that impacted you for 7 days or less and caused you to be absent from a time-bound assessment. A full request is for impact that lasted for more than 7 days, and for assessment types not covered by self-certification.
You should submit a request no later than 14 calendar days after the deadline of the impacted assessment or exam, but not before. If your request is upheld, you will normally get a further opportunity to undertake the assessment without penalty, during the resit period, but this can vary and is not automatic. Your Course Examination Board will consider how it should be applied.
For short term difficulties ahead of a deadline, you might want to consider applying for an extension instead. Speak to your Course Leader or Student Union before submitting a request for either, to ensure that it is the right course of action for your circumstances.
