In 1980 members of our Christ Child Society brought the idea of a Ronald McDonald House to Akron and that proposal was accepted by Akron Children's Hospital. Ground was broken in 1983 and the facility opened in January 1985. Our chapter pledged $10,000 to the initial building fund and volunteers have worked at the house ever since then.

Our team of volunteers keeps the house clean and operating smoothly. They maintain the shared common areas of the house by cleaning, stocking, baking, laundry and being present in the house in case families need something. Volunteers are utilized to process donations and keep storage areas neatly stocked, labeled and rotated.

Volunteer Information
Must have basic housekeeping, food prep and laundry skills, be organized, reliable and dependable. Must be able to commit to at least one 3-hour shift per month or one day per week on a rotating monthly schedule with alternating weeks. Core House Volunteer shifts are: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm –8:00 pm.
