COLLEGE OF FISHERIES, CHMSU - BINALBAGAN CAMPUS
After graduation, graduates of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University shall have:
Have passed the licensure examination for Fisheries Technologist;
Work technicians in the fishery industry such as fish farms, coastal and offshore aquaculture, fish hatcheries, fishing vessels, post-harvest facilities in public or private institutions;
Engage in research as biologist, environmentalist, sociologist, fisheries economist and in any related capacity for the sustainable improvement of fishery industry
Perform job as community organizer in the formation of fishermen of fisher folks associations or cooperatives considered essential for a diverse but a unified people empowerment;
Assume supervisory and managerial responsibilities in the operation of fishing vessels, aquaculture ventures, fish processing and postharvest facilities, game and recreational fisheries, fishery law enforcement and coastal or marine environment conservation and rehabilitation;
Perform role as planner that can formulate fisheries programs and projects involving participation of different sectors and agencies though linkaging, networking and collaborating;
Actively involved in any professional or civic-oriented fisheries activities that promote the protection of stakeholders rights, fisheries policies education or information dissemination, and conservation, preservation of the marine resources towards viable and sustainable fishery industry;
Live as a law abiding citizen, proactive fisheries practitioner that promote for peaceful, orderly and progressive society.
The graduates of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University shall be able to:
Articulate and discuss the latest developments in Fisheries (PQF level 6 descriptor).
Effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino.
Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams (PQF level 6 descriptor).
Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility.
Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (RA 7722).
Generate and share knowledge relevant to specific fields in the study of Fisheries education.
Formulate and implement fisheries development plans and programs.
Develop, operate and manage aquaculture production systems.
Exploit and utilize wisely fisheries resources using appropriate and innovative fishing methods.
Apply post-harvest practices that are compliant to international standards for food safety and quality.
Manage and protect the integrity and quality of aquatic ecosystems and resources.
The curriculum for BSFISHERIES covers a balanced treatment of functional areas in Aquaculture, Post-harvest, Capture and Marine Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources and Ecology. It prepares competent fisheries professionals who can contribute to sustainable and responsible fisheries. The subjects under the General Education (GE) courses are as per CHED memorandum no. 20 series of 2013. This curriculum is vertically aligned with the Agri-Fishery Arts strand of the senior high school academic track. The HEIs may be allowed to credit subjects/course taken by students abroad, provided they have the same required number of units and course description (CMO 17 s 2017, Article V, section 8).
