Academic institutions are responsible for developing graduate’s competence that matches the needs of the elementary schools and is responsive to present and future challenges. A critical component of competence is the skills which must be provided in and out of the schools. On this note, teaching internship becomes necessary to complement classroom instruction.
The teaching internship is required under the CMO 74 Series of 2017. Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for Bachelor of Elementary Education. This provides students the chance and opportunity to apply the skills, knowledge and attitudes learned in college and, at the same time, to experience the actual teaching to the elementary learners
These teaching internships expose the students to work realities that will ideally hone their skills and prepare them once they get out of the university or college. Yashpal Committee Reports that teaching internship supports socialization within the profession, stimulates development of teaching-learning concepts, provides a protected field of experimentations, allows new perspectives and enhances motivation to continue learning and reflecting. This would help them to choose, design, organize and conduct meaningful classroom activities therefore ,internship plays a significant and prominent role in the course of teacher education.
Each semester, students completed the teachers' evaluation. Students will rate their subject teachers using the institutional evaluation form as a baseline. Commitment, Knowledge, Teaching for Independent Learning, Learning Management, and Professionalism are among the evaluation criteria.
The ratings will be distributed to the faculty after the evaluation of the students has been completed so that they are aware of their ratings as well as the comments and suggestions of the students. This faculty evaluation helps the faculty develop their teaching skills, classroom management, and professionalism.
