Classroom Management Plan
Mission
My mission is to prepare students for standardized testing in Middle School, exit testing in High School, and their succeeding mathematics courses. In addition to course content, I strive to incorporate life skills into my classroom including respect, integrity, discipline, and work ethic. I desire for these goals to be accomplished while students have a positive and rewarding experience along the way.
Classroom
A. Materials Provided
Students should be issued a textbook the first week of the school year. All textbooks are issued free of charge and are property of Clanton Middle School. Students are responsible for keeping up with and caring for their textbooks. Papers or other materials are not allowed to be kept inside the textbooks. Textbooks will be taken up the last week of the school year. Reimbursement for costs of damaged or lost textbooks will be required.
B. Materials Needed EVERY Class Day.
C. Grading and Assignments
1. A report card or progress report will be sent home approximately every 4.5 weeks.
2. Grading Scale:
A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
F: 59 and below.
3. Point Value:
Usually out of 100 points: Tests
Usually out of 50 points: Other. (Includes homework, class work, participation, notebooks, grade sheets, & quizzes.
D. Bonus Points
Extra assignments for bonus points are not given. Students often ask me what they can do to bring up their grade. A good response is: βDo all of your work and study for your tests.β I have never had a student have any trouble passing my class who did all of their work and studied for their tests.
E. Technology Integration
The use of an βELMOβ and an overhead projector will be integrated almost daily. My website is https://sites.google.com/chiltonboe.com/cmsmath/home.
Classroom Rules and Consequences
A. Rules
1. Come to class on time with all materials needed (textbook, binder, pencil, calculator, homework.)
2. Respect your teachers, your classmates, and yourself.
3. Clean up your work area before you leave.
4. Remain quiet and seated while the teacher is teaching or has a guest in the room.
5. Do right (this should cover everything else!)
B. Consequences
1. Verbal warning
2. Writing assignment
3. Loss of points or credit
4. Note, email, or call to parent
5. Send to office
6. Students choosing not to participate in doing their classwork may loose 10 points per day on days they choose to do nothing in class
This is a list of possible consequences. The teacher will give consequences in the amount and order he deems necessary based on the severity of the offense and other circumstances. All rules in the Chilton County Code of Conduct will also be adhered to. Cell phone usage is not allowed.
Classroom Procedures
A. Typical Daily Routine
1. Students should be in their seats and quiet with all needed materials when the tardy bell rings.
2. Students should immediately begin working on their board work assignment (this may also be referred to as a bell ringer). This will be posted in the designated area every day.
3. I will take roll.
4. I will review homework and board work assignments. These will be graded sporadically.
5. I will present the lesson in chunks allowing students to work problems a few at a time.
6. Students are expected to participate. This includes raising their hands and answering questions, taking necessary notes, and engaging in class work assignments.
7. I will give an independent practice assignment. This is to be worked on until I dismiss class and finished for homework if not completed in class.
8. Students will be expected to clean up their work areas before they leave. Students should not leave any belongings or trash in the room.
B. Makeup Work
Make up work will be allowed for excused absences and credit will be given for same. Credit for makeup work for unexcused absences or suspensions will be at the discretion of the teacher or administration.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain, complete, and turn in makeup work. Absent students are encouraged to get assignments from the website or a friend and have them ready when they return to school. If not, students should get work assignments from a friend or the teacher the day they return to school. These assignments will be due the second day the student returns to school unless otherwise agreed to by the teacher.
C. Late/Missed Assignments
Homework:
Student may be allowed to turn in assignment late for 50% credit.
Tests:
Student will need to reach an agreement with the teacher as to when tests will be made up. It will be the responsibility of the student to complete makeup tests in a time frame agreed to as reasonable by the teacher, usually 1-2 days.
D. Homework
Students will be given independent practice problems almost daily that need to be finished for homework if not completed in class. Homework assignments will be given verbally and written on the board in a designated area. These assignments are to be completed and labeled correctly with page number and problems before coming to class the next day. Students will be advised the first week of school as to how to properly label their papers. Homework will be spot checked sporadically. There will also be a notebook grade given periodically in which the completion of homework will be checked. Students should show their work and be neat. If the teacher canβt read it, the student will not receive credit.
E. Hall passes
Students must obtain permission from the teacher before leaving the room. If the student is permitted to leave, they will need to obtain a hall pass from the teacher. The student is to return the hall pass to the teacher upon return. Hall passes will be given at the discretion of the teacher.
F. Miscellaneous
1. Students may be required to sit in seats assigned by the teacher.
2. The aisles between desks should remain clear so that the teacher can walk freely about to check work and give help.
3. Drinks with twist on caps only will be allowed in the classroom.
4. Discrete candy will be allowed.
5. Food will not be allowed.
6. Teacher will give extra instructions in the event the computer lab or it's equipment is used.
7. Teacher reserves the right to take up any item he deems a distraction.
8. Teacher reserves the right to add to, take away, or change any rule or procedure he deems necessary for the betterment of the classroom environment.
