Our plan was to educate people about single use bags and how they are effecting the water pollution which intern effect Butte County watersheds. Our plan to educate was to outreach to our community by having them fill out a survey about their reusable habits. With agreeing to fill out the survey we gifted them a "Chico Bag" reusable bag.
Our second part of the plan was to educate students here at Sierra View reusable lunch boxes. With Chico Bag's generous discount we purchased 24 reusable Bento Box lunch boxes. That we gave to a incoming kindergarten class with instructions on reusing this lunch box for the 6 years they will spend at Sierra View. With a incentive program to encourage them to use their lunch box.
24 people responded to the Sustainability Survey. When we asked if you use the shopping bag while you are shopping and 95% said yes. We asked if you people still have the bag and everybody said yes! Everybody said they liked the bags. 40% of people said it changed their habits about using plastic bags. We asked what other things do you reuse and everybody said they reused water bottles 96% said they reused food containers. 44% said they reused straws and 68% said they reused Utensils and 64% said they used other things.

We got reusable lunch boxes for 1 kindergartner class at Sierra View. They where made of metal, and we got them from Chico Bag a local company.
Cost: $7.50
Cost: $13

We thought we would go with the metal lunch box but they were to much money so we were going to do the plastic lunch box and then Chico Bag gave us a 50 percent of deal so we went for that because it was cheaper but the best quality.

We wanted to collaborate with Chico Bag because they are a local company who we knew could help us. Two girls in our class wrote them an email asking if they would collaborate with us.
Dear Nau,
We are Annie and Emily. Emily and I are 4th grade students at Sierra View (Mrs. Peck contacted you earlier about us), and we’re working on a project called the H2O challenge where we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint. I am wondering if you could tell me the price of 25 Chico Bags. We were hoping that we could convince people to use reusable bags instead of single-use bags by giving them one outside of a grocery store.
Thanks for reading this message,
Annie & Emily
We ended partnering up with Chico Bag and they gave us over 20 free misprinted Chico bags to give away at S&S, a local grocery store, tin lunch boxes for 50% off to give to the kindergartners of Sierra View Elementary School, and some bags to borrow for shooting our music video, "Old Chico Road".

Ms. Akimoto's class is donating a refillable water bottle station using the money from the past winners of the H20 challenge. That way when kids are using there reusable water bottles (like kids who care about the environment) they can refill there water bottles. Also, above the refillable water bottle station there will be a plaque that will say something like, donated by Ms. Akimoto's class winners of the H20 challenge past years. They also donated the station because when people see it, they will probably want to use it and will start using water bottles, then that will be fantastic because they will be reducing our carbon footprint. Also if they are using the refillable water bottle station that will be great because that means they are using reusable items and that is really good for the environment because using reusable items reduces some of our carbon footprint.
