"Old Chico Road" Music Video

The Idea

By Reed

Last summer my mom and I traveled in Europe. When traveling we heard the song "Old Town Road". We looked up the video and watched it a lot. I liked it and the song was catchy. My mom explained the video to me about the Portal. Which is a doorway in time. In the video, they go from the wild west to downtown Los Angeles. My mom and I came up with the idea of going into the future and seeing how climate change was effecting Chico and the enivorment around us. We thought it would be fun to change the song and make a video.

Writing the Song

By Ava

We decided to rewrite the song "Old Town Road". We took the lyrics from old town road and changed them to match our idea about climate change and how its going to effect Butte County's watershed. We got the lyrics from online and changed them syllable by syllable. Our teacher put them up on the View board and we listen to the song as we rewrote it.

"Old Chico Road" Lyrics

By Room 12

Yeah, I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

(water, water)

Water bottle is attached

My bag’s in back

We’ve got the plan

That’s made to match

Ridin’ on my bike, ya

Going on a hike, ya

I’ve been in the future

It ain’t really good, now

Everybody save our water

You gotta save our water

Everybody save our water

You gotta save our water

Usin’ up less plastic

I have a good tactic

Chico bag I’m bringin’

You can be a saver

It ain’t really groovy

When trashin’ things is routine

Reusable is moving

Recycling is doing

Everybody save our water

You gotta save our water

Everybody save our water

You gotta save our water

I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

Trash down, in town, livin’ like a changer

Spend a little money on my brand new bottle

Maybe start a habit; to refill my water bottles

Ridin’ down in Chico in my new electric- sports car

Got no trash, recycle all that

I’ve got some solar panels to make free light

Wish I could roll on back to that unchanged world

I wanna strive till I can’t no more

I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

I’m going to save my world from climate change

We’re gonna save water everyday

Creating the Music Video

by Quinn,

Every part of old town road we changed syllable by syllable to make make more parts of the song in till we finished the song. Then we started filming, We filmed at stores, also at schools and the recording studio

Action News

Dear Action News Now,

I am in Miss Akimoto’s fourth grade class at Sierra View Elementary and my class and I have been working on our Cal Water H2O project. Our project goal is to see how climate change can affect Butte County’s water and see the little things we can do to help stop global warming.

We have recently posted a video where my classmates and I are singing a parody to “Old Town Road '' in which we titled “Old Chico Road ''. We would be delighted if you would post our video and our project on your news report to help spread the word on how people can help.

If you have any questions, please contact my teacher at eakimoto@chicousd.org. Thank you for your time and I hope you will allow this plan.

Thank you,

Olivia

We got to be on action news now!

Chico ER

Dear Ms. Epley, ,

My name is Emma and I am in a fourth class at Sierra View. Our class is doing our H20 project about stopping climate change to save our water. To help stop climate change we have made a recycling program at our school, handed out free Chico Bags and S&S Produce for people to use, got our kindergarteners to use reusable lunchboxes, and checked for water leaks all over the school so our custodian can fix them. We wanted to reach out to the community, so we made a music video that was a remix of Old Town Road about reducing climate change and what you can do to reduce it (http://bit.ly/Room12OldChicoRoad). My class was hoping you could write about our project so people know how to help stop climate change.

Thank you!

Emma

Chico News and Review

Dear Chico News and Review,

I am a fourth grade student at Sierra View Elementary School here in Chico and my class is working on a project called the H20 Challenge. We are trying to figure out how climate change is affecting Butte County’s watersheds, and what we can do. To help stop climate change we have made a recycling program at our school, handed out free Chico Bags and S&S Produce for people to use, got our kindergarteners to use reusable lunchboxes, and checked for water leaks all over the school so our custodian can fix them. We also wanted to reach out to the community so we rewrote the song “Old Chico Road” by Lil Nas X. (http://bit.ly/Room12OldChicoRoad). We were wondering if you could consider featuring us in your newspaper to spread the word on how to stop climate change. If so, it would be great, and would really help our class.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, Cora

They are interviewing us 2-20-20.

Hi my name is Ava and we are working on our H2O bv challenge. We want to STOP climate change from affecting our watershed .We wanted to spread the word so we made a music video ,we even went to S&S and handed out Chico Bags, but we knew we wanted to do something for the school so we got a refillable water bottle station, and we even got recycling bins for all the grades at Sierra View. We have been teaching everyone how to recycle. We also bought a kindergarten class resulabe lunch tins so they can use them the whole they are in elementary school.
