As part of a mass democratic organization, we are accountable to each other and responsible for keeping each other and our collective project safe. We’re asking you to exercise posting discipline, not from some corporate standard of “professionalism” or because we seek to be “respectable”: it is because such posts can pose organizational or individual harm, and could threaten the strides we’ve made in organizing work.
Do not share recordings, screenshots, business that has not been voted by the body, debates, and other content from CDSA-only spaces (Executive Committee meetings, General Chapter Meetings, officer meetings, Slack, emails, etc.) on social media platforms and online communities.
Any behavior that is in line with national DSA’s Resolution 33’s definition of harassment will not be tolerated.
Language that is ableist, racist, sexist, transphobic, or that perpetuates oppressive ideologies is not acceptable on online platforms, and especially directing any of this language at a specific comrade or comrades.
Any language that is intentionally insulting to a comrade on social media or public online communities (such as Reddit or Discord) is unacceptable.
Harassing other members—or participating in behavior that could lead to a member being harassed, such as discussing a member in an online community—even when using anonymous user names is also unacceptable.
Leaders of our organization, including officers, members of the Executive Committee, campaign leaders, branch leaders, and others, are considered the faces of our organization. Any and all public commentary or actions you take on social media may be seen as the intent or will of our organization. Keep in mind your position as political leaders and how your actions could impact our membership.
These guidelines are excerpted from the Chicago DSA's social media policy.
