High School
9th-12th Grades at CHESS
Tips for Parents
Stay informed about class expectations and assigments
Remain ready to support students with work at home. Even high schoolers need help sometimes, and it's better to be proactive than to try to help your high schooler catch up when they feel overwhelmed.
Understand the importance of informational literacy, including proper citation.
Advocate for your students (they still need you!) and encourage them to advocate for themselves.
Remind students of resources they have available, including teacher support when offered (most teachers encourage asking questions!), collaboration with classmates, online help such as Khan Academy, and library resources (the CHESS library included!)
Citation Resources
Important Note: Citation generators like EasyBib and Scribbr can be helpful tools, but they are not always perfect! Your student is STILL responsible for accurate citations, so it is HIGHLY recommended that they check their citations before submitting papers. Use the Purdue OWL or the MLA style guide for explanations and examples of correct citations.

Research Help
Your student can use these guides, curated by Mrs. Meester, to find credible sources of information for research projects and papers. Students can also find Mrs. Meester in the library or email her at ameester@chesschristian.com to schedule personalized help with research or citations!
Find biography information for all time periods, places, and fields of interest.
Presidents, scientists, explorers, athletes, and more!
Find research help for Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science!
InfOhio
InfOhio is an excellent collection of databases suitable for student research. Organized by grade level and subject matter, they are protected by filters to ensure safe browsing. As with all online resources, however, parent supervision is highly recommended.
AllSides.com
Use AllSides for current news articles! This site helps identify political leanings and bias in news sources to help readers compare facts and reports from varying views. Search right from within this window!
Textbooks
Some parents want to purchase a second set of textbooks to keep at home so that students don't have to carry their books back and forth from school. This is OPTIONAL, and many other parents find this is unecessary (particularly in these grades!). However, if you are interested in purchasing such a set, here are the lists for 3rd and 4th. Please note the correct editions.
