Every college-bound student should take at least two years of the same world language. This is an entrance requirement for most colleges, and some are beginning to require three years. College bound or not, a student interested in any career in the business world is well advised to study at least one world language. Third year level study of a world language can also be used to complete requirements for the Honors Program. A final grade of at least 75% is strongly recommended to continue each sequence without teacher approval. Beginning the sequence again during the next school year is often the best strategy for success.
To begin the World Language sequence as a freshman, a minimum middle school GPA of 3.0 in the core subjects is strongly recommended. In order to achieve oral and written proficiency as well as meet many colleges foreign language requirements, it is advised that students take three consecutive years of the same language beginning as a freshman or sophomore. In the event that requests at any level are greater than the available sections, priority will be assigned based on planned graduation date and academic performance during the previous semesters’ language class
