College Admission Credits set by the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB):

Social Science – 3 credits of history or other social science.

Social Studies Graduation Requirements Washington State: All public high schools are required to meet statewide graduation requirements in order to earn a diploma. In social studies, students are required to earn 3.0 credits. Beginning in 2020 - 2021 students must take a Civics course (.5 credits) or approved equivalent as a graduation requirement for 2024 and beyond, Civics or Political Science 202 American Government meets this requirement. Students who have not completed their Washington State History requirement in the 7th or 8th grade or in another state, must complete this course as part of the three years of required social studies.

All W. F. West Social Studies course options meet general college entrance requirements (CADR). Any student who desires challenging work in social studies may take advanced options and dual credit opportunities at each grade level, if they are prepared to make the academic commitment. The department strives to offer equity and access to college preparatory courses.

• There are no prerequisites for the Advanced Placement or Centralia College in the High School courses. The courses will include reading, writing and college preparatory activities. Out of class preparation is about 1.5 hours per week. Students in good academic standing should consider these options.
• The College Board Advanced Placement Exams through the College Board are recommended for dual credit opportunity. The College Board AP Exams have a fee. Students who opt out of the College Board exams will be given an AP exam that is scored by the teacher. Information about the exam fees will be provided during the fall semester.
• College in the High School courses require Centralia College tuition for a 5 credit course. Counselors can provide tuition information.
• Scholarships may be available to those with financial need. W. F. West supports Advanced Placement and College in the High School opportunities for all students.
