College Admission Credits set by the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB):
Social Science – 3 credits of history or other social science.
Social Studies Graduation Requirements Washington State: All public high schools are required to meet statewide graduation requirements in order to earn a diploma. In social studies, students are required to earn 3.0 credits. Beginning in 2020 - 2021 students must take a Civics course (.5 credits) or approved equivalent as a graduation requirement for 2024 and beyond, Civics or Political Science 202 American Government meets this requirement. Students who have not completed their Washington State History requirement in the 7th or 8th grade or in another state, must complete this course as part of the three years of required social studies.
All W. F. West Social Studies course options meet general college entrance requirements (CADR). Any student who desires challenging work in social studies may take advanced options and dual credit opportunities at each grade level, if they are prepared to make the academic commitment. The department strives to offer equity and access to college preparatory courses.
