Your go-to hub for guidance, support, and community during the PreK year.
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we know the transition into Pre-K brings new routines and questions. This page is NOT meant to replace or supercede district/school/teacher instruction, direction, or communication, but to provide supplemental support—offering resources, reminders, and ways to connect with other families. Many parents have found these early bonds become a lasting support system through the school years.

Learning sight words is a critical early step in helping preschoolers become confident and fluent readers, as these high-frequency words make up the majority of beginner texts and sometimes can't be easily sounded out. Recognizing them instantly allows children to read more smoothly and understand sentences with greater ease. To make learning effective, it must be fun—using engaging, multisensory activities like games, songs, and hands-on exploration helps reinforce word recognition. But fun at school isn’t enough—consistent practice at home is key. Parents play a vital role by integrating simple, playful sight word practice into their daily routines to support their child's reading journey. Families should consider exploring a variety of creative and kid-friendly games to make learning sight words at home both effective and enjoyable.

9/23/25: CHISD has created helpful Parent Success Guides for each grade level, including Pre-K. These resources give families a clear roadmap of the skills and knowledge scholars are expected to learn this year. They also include sample questions to help you stay connected with your child’s progress and engage with their teacher.
We’re sharing the Pre-K guide here so our families can easily access this valuable CHISD resource and support learning at home.
9/22/25: Did You Know? To volunteer or join field trips and school activities, CHISD requires you to be an approved volunteer each year. That means you must complete the district’s short online application every school year—it’s a non-negotiable safety step to keep our children safe.
The process is quick, easy, and once approved, you’ll be cleared to participate. Check out this page on our website for details.
9/20/25: Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for next week. Make sure to sign up for an appointment with your scholar's teacher!
At Collegiate Prep, we believe families play a vital role in helping scholars start strong. That’s why CHCP PTA created “9 Ways to Support Your PreK Scholar”—a simple, practical guide designed to help families navigate the transition into school and build habits that lead to long-term success.
These strategies highlight how everyday actions—like reading together, staying connected with the school, and encouraging healthy routines—make a big difference in a child’s academic growth and confidence. By working together, families and our school community can set the foundation for a love of learning and ensure every scholar feels supported, prepared, and ready to thrive.
