Chatham Reads is a partnership led by Chatham County Schools and the Chatham Education Foundation partnering with other local community organizations to bring awareness of literacy to the community.

The mission of Chatham Reads is to foster community partnerships that are dedicated to ensuring that literacy and reading resources are accessible to all Chatham County residents. We have joined the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading and are working to ensure that our children are reading at or beyond grade-level by the end of 3rd grade. Learn more about this campaign HERE.

Thanks to funding from the NC Legislature and local partners, Chatham County children ages birth to four years old can receive a new book in the mail each month at no cost to the family. Smart Start and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are working together to get books into the hands of North Carolina’s youngest children. Click HERE to find out more!

Want to easily find out the reading level of a book? Try the Level It app. Finding the reading levels/measures is as easy as scanning the ISBN on the back of your book. Within seconds, you will be viewing the Guided Reading (GR), DRA, Grade Level Equivalent (GLE), and/or Lexile levels/measures for your books. Our friends at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Carolina in Siler City use this app to help students in their after school program find books that match up just right for them!
