Wedelia is a herbaceous perennial in the sunflower family. They are one of the genera commonly called "creeping-oxeyes". The genus is named in honor of German botanist and physician Georg Wolfgang Wedel, 1645–1721.
Whenever wedelia stems touch the ground, they take root. This means the plant has an extremely aggressive spreading habit. In some states, it is classified as an invasive species. Wedelia is one of the most common and dependable groundcovers in Hawaii, however, it can and will over grow planting areas, low-growing shrubs, other groundcovers, and small items in the bed. It can also be invasive in lawns, landscape beds, and woodlands.
1" golden yellow daisies sit atop the dark rich green foliage of this groundcover. Drought tolerant once established, Wedelia is heat and sun tolerant, and creates a dense 8-12" high mass of foliage, stems and flowers.
