Lemon-scented Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus citriodora
Myrtaceae (myrtle family)
Introduced
The Lemon-scented eucalyptus is also known as the Lemon-scented gum. It is native to Australia.
This fast-growing evergreen tree can grow up to 100' tall with a 40' wide canopy. The slightly mottled bark is velvety and smooth to touch. It sheds in late summer. The long, narrow, yellow-green colored leaves give off a lemon scent when crushed. Small white flowers in 3-flowered umbels appear in mid to late winter. Flowers rarely appear on young trees or container plants.
The Lemon-scented eucalyptus is easy to maintain and does well in drought and poor soil conditions.
