Postsecondary Options

• Don't wait until end of senior year to begin your planning. Know the types of jobs that interest you and the skills/ training required. Begin building a resume along with a list of references. • Apprenticeships allow you to earn an income while learning on the job at a sponsor company and receiving free in-class training. Search opportunities at:

• The military offers many career options spanning all 16 career clusters within its five branches. You can enlist in the military after high school graduation. To become an officer, a four-year degree is typically required. Options include military service academies, ROTC programs, and Officer Candidate/Training schools. • Career technical education (CTE) programs are usually one year or less and relatively low-cost. They typically result in a certification or licensure for a technical job in a highly-specified field such as LPN, EMT, electrician, or cosmetologist. Local institutions with postsecondary CTE programs include Auburn Career Center, Lakeland, Tri-C, and the Kent Geauga/Twinsburg and Kent Ashtabula branch campuses.
