The Nutrition Program is a cornerstone initiative of Philippines Service Learning (PSL), dedicated to combating hunger and ensuring students in Camarines Norte receive essential nourishment. This program aligns with UNSDG #2: Zero Hunger, by providing breakfast and lunch to 160 students across three partnered schools. Initially, PSL partnered with Alaska Milk Corporation to supply fortified powdered milk, enhancing students' daily nutrition. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program adapted to distribute weekly food packets to families, ensuring continued support despite school closures. The Nutrition Program not only addresses hunger but also incentivizes academic attendance and performance, creating a holistic impact on the students' well-being and educational success.
PRE-COVID
Before COVID, this program was directly implemented in the schools where selected students were provided with breakfast and lunch in the school.
COVID-19 Food Relief Packet Program:
After COVID-19 hit, we have modified the nutrition program so that we could continue to supply the students with the nutrition they need. Since students are not able to come to school every day, we have modified the program so that the food packets containing food for the week are distributed at the start of every week to the families.
