Philippines Service Learning is a student-led organization that strives to empower the less privileged by supporting them with their humanitarian needs such as nutritional needs. We aim to achieve the five UNSDGs: #1 No Poverty, #2 Zero Hunger, #3 Good Health and Well-being, #4 Quality Education, and #17 Partnerships for the Goals.
The Philippines Service Learning Program (PSLP) is a very sensible educational innovation. Sending Filipino students to other countries for them to experience the life of other students in those countries and to immerse in local communities is one of the best ways to acquire lessons in life that no one could get inside of their schools. Knowing other countries’ culture and the traditions of local communities is enlightening enough and an experience on its own. Truly an example of the saying “education should not be confined in the four corners of the classroom”. The municipality of Labo is indeed very fortunate because out of the 1,611 cities and municipalities in the Philippines, our town was one of the few that were chosen to become a part of this program. With the help of generous benefactors, we were able to send four students and two teachers to Incheon, South Korea for them to learn something new, something different, which I know would give them a new character and a new way of looking at life.
Labo also hosted a number of students from Chadwick International and as they learned the life of our community, we also learned a lot from them. For this, I would like to thank our benefactors and the Philippine service Learning Program for giving our students an opportunity to learn something very special which I know that they would treasure forever, together with an experience that they would never forget for the rest of their lives. Another reason to be thankful is the Feeding and Nutrition Program (Breakfast and Lunch) to be given by the PSLP this June to Aniceta De Lara Pimentel High School intended for students who are disadvantaged so that they could truly focus on their studies. Likewise is the construction of a Home Economics Laboratory that would be a big help for the students and would make their teachers and parents really grateful. Truly, these things would leave a long-lasting impact to the students, to their parents, and to the community. My sincerest appreciation and deepest gratitude to the people behind the Philippine Service Learning Program. You are making a positive change to make students have a better life, which hopefully would create big ripples in a sea of indifference.
