Welcome to the music room!

This year, we will continue to focus on the music standards as designated by the Cedar Grove curriculum as well as the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards.

They include:

• Creating : Generate musical ideas for various purposes and contexts. The creative ideas, concepts and feelings influence musicians' work emerge from a variety of sources.
• Performing: Select various musical works to present based on interest, knowledge, technical skill and context.
• Responding: Choose music appropriate for a specific purpose or context. Individual's selection of musical works is influenced by their interests, experiences, understandings, and purposes.
• Connecting: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make music. Musicians connect their personal interests, experiences, ideas, and knowledge to creating, performing, and responding.

I include all of these standards into my music lessons. All students explore music through playing, singing, composing, performing, reading, and observing. They are learning a new language! Students are encouraged to be themselves, act and be creative at appropriate times, and be a team-player when working as a group. Classroom activities that I've chosen have been well researched, utilizing the standards listed above. I expect a lot of effort from my students, and they do a fantastic job of impressing me.
