James Thomas Invitational @ Hillsboro

Council Grove brought 18 athletes to compete at the James Thomas Invitational in Hillsboro last Friday night. The top performers of the day included Kodi Downes, who took 1st place in Pole Vault at 12 feet; Jadyn Picolet, coming in 2nd in the 3200m with a time of 10:28.19 and 3rd in the 1600m at 4:52.49.


The team also did well in relays, with Blaise French, Evan Carr, Levi Waring, and Kayden Schmidt grabbing 4th in the Boys 4x100m at 45.8 seconds. In the Boys 4x400m Relay, it was French, Downes, Waring, and Schmidt taking 4th with a time of 3:37.3.


In individual events, Evan Carr jumped to 4th place in Triple Jump with 40 feet and 8.75 inches, while Keegan Brown followed close in 5th with 40 feet and 6.5 inches. Kiele Tyner claimed 5th in the 200m at 28.51 seconds. Macy Bolen cleared 4 feet and 10 inches for 6th in High Jump, and Gunner Gleason threw 42 feet and 2.5 inches for 6th in Shot Put.


Looking ahead, Council Grove's schedule includes a trip to Herington next Thursday, the Freshman/Sophomore Invitational at Emporia State on May 6th, the Flint Hills League Meet in Chase County on May 10th, Regionals in Halstead on May 16th (Thursday Regional this year), and the State Track Meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita on May 24th-25th.
