The Council Grove State Track & Field team had an up-and-down showing at the State Meet.
Freshman Logan Stockwell shined, becoming the 111th male state placer in school history. He also became just the second Brave ever to medal (top 8) in the 300m Hurdles, clocking a 41.7 in the finals. Stockwell’s performances in both the 300m and 110m hurdles were the best ever by a Braves freshman. He joins Kodi Downes (2021) as the only freshmen in school history to medal at State in an individual event—Downes placed 4th in the 3200m and 7th in the 1600m.
Junior Gunner Gleason had a strong showing in Shot Put, placing 12th in a stacked 3A field, improving on his 15th-place finish from a season ago. Gleason is currently one of the top five shot putters in school history, with one season still to go.
Sophomore Jadyn Picolet finished 14th in the 3200m. While off his season PR of 10:04, Picolet is already among the top five two-milers all-time at Council Grove, with two more seasons ahead of him.
The Braves’ 4x100m relay team suffered a tough break in prelims, botching the first exchange and failing to finish the race—an unfortunate end to what had been a surprise season in the event. However, the primary squad of Junior Blaise French, Senior Jacob McIver, Sophomore Mason Jenkins, and Senior Levi Waring posted the third-fastest time in school history with a 43.88 at Regionals. Notably, the three fastest 4x100m times in program history have all come within the last four seasons.
A strong core of underclassmen will return next year for the Braves, setting the stage for an exciting 2026 campaign. The boys captured team titles at both the Silver Lake and Herington meets this season, and finished 2nd in League. The girls, though low in numbers, competed hard and showed promising potential for the future.
