CHAPMAN WEISHAAR MILLER INVITE

The boys' team finished 4th, and the girls' team finished 6th at the Chapman Weishaar Miller Invite, marking the start of the 2024 Council Grove High School track season. Despite a young group featuring just 7 total seniors, the teams competed well against primarily 4A classification competition (the Braves are 3A). Council Grove achieved 30 personal records overall during the event.

The meet began strongly with Macy Bolen winning the girls' high jump competition, tying her personal best jump of 4'10". Following that, Evan Carr had his best season starter, securing victory in the boys' triple jump with a distance of 41'2.5". Carr, who finished 4th at the state meet last season, showcased his continued skill.

Kodi Downes rounded off the field events by winning the Pole Vault with a jump of 12'. Downes, a 3A state qualifier in the previous season, dominated the event - winning by 1'6".

The throwers also had an impressive start to their season. Colton Lesslie claimed 2nd place in Discus with a toss of 122'6", while Gunner Gleason secured 3rd place with a throw of 115'1". Holden Ziegler made a notable debut in the shot put as well, finishing 2nd with a throw of 41'6".

In the running events, the Braves boasted two medalists for the day: the Boys' 4x100m relay team and Jadyn Picolet in the 3200m. The 4x100m team clocked a time of 46.37 for 3rd place, but were hindered by a few bad exchanges that prevented them from achieving a sub-46s time. Picolet, a freshman, impressed in his two distance races, notably recording a time of 4:57.3 in the 3200m event to earn 3rd.
